Clough IMO was a massive risk! This guy? A risk sure but then appointing any manager is somewhat of a gamble, but he has been around the block a bit and would seem to be a top coach - only time will tell.

The hype seems to be cos he is from Real Madrid.
Clearly hope I'm proved wrong but it will be the first time he has been in total charge as manager and his playing experience is also limited. Its not a case of giving the bloke a chance if this is a mistake the effect on club and supporters could be severe, particularly as the expectations ( from both fans and owners) are so high.
It's a massive risk for sure but why not... What are the alternatives? Same old journeyman managers who do the rounds.. Nah not for me.
At least we are trying to do something different. Who would have been your preference for manager?

I have to agree. The standard run of thes are journeymen for a reason. Quick bit of initial "new broom" success followed by disappointment and subsequent fail

As far as I can see the ' I told you so brigade' are not out yet and its quite fair to comment now the appointment is confirmed. We are allowed to hold different views aren't we????

As a long term season ticket holder through thick and thin I will give the bloke a chance. But how long will the club give him ? What are their expectations ? Will they be prepared to give him 2-3 seasons to come good? Some fans, not just on here , clearly expect success quickly.

Calm down, no need to hold your finger on the exclamation marks...!
Yes different opinions are good and you are clearly not one of the "crows" sitting on the telegraph lines waiting for those running the club to fail.
However its cautious optimism. In my opinion (thats all it is) i would prefer to give someone who clearly has experience of man management and coaching success at a seriously high level, albeit not as a number 1, an opportunity rather than the usual suspects.
Someone who has been sought after by those with far more knowledge than most on here. Not all of course!
Would i prefer Alladyce (the antichrist of football), Pardew, Dyche, Hoddle et al, not really. The ones i would like probably wouldn`t come anyway as they are succesful!
Jimmy Floyd..i like the way he talks and conducts himself, clearly a great man manager..but too soon. Rowett?? Is he more experienced than Clement?
Its a question, does a young manager with a couple of years experience bring more than an experienc

I presume rush and the chairman have done there homework on clement, beyond the usualReal/ ancelotti connection. They must see something in him that they identify derby need. As for the risk factor because he hasn't managed before, that is reduced because as Limey points out he won't be manager here but head coach. Either way he has a hell of a task to motivate this team and find the right players we need and to keep the likes of Martin. Good luck.
