Interesting one MR but if we had had a talisman the. Maybe we would have won at Wembley as they are the sort of player that makes a difference.
You've mentioned two strikers but neither have had success at their club.
I think my use of the word cult confused some. A talisman will become cult. But a cult player on their own is something different.
Bobby Davison I thought in the face of it yes. Then thinking more no. He scored goals but did he do much more?
Saunders again umnnnnnn maybe but then no IMO. Goddard was the talisman then. Made goals, scored goals and just made things happen. Once he was gone the team almost imploded. A talisman doesn't have to be the headline getter he is usually a workhorse that when up against the wall can do something different from all the others. Often they are for one team and not another.
Example For Liverpool talisman = Gerard. Cult heros = Owen, Fowler, Rush.

That's the first
Talismanic players are surely those who teammates and supporters alike consider capable of special and magical moments. The ones who appear able to, almost singlehandedly, change the outcome of a game either by deed or example, those who, uncoincidentally, supporters develop individual chants about and the ones whose absence genuinely leads to fears about the team's chance of success. Saunders and Davidson certainly fitted that criteria, as have many others, in all sorts of positions. In terms of ability and influence so too does George Thorne but his 'availibility' record may prevent him becoming the 'talisman' we would all like him to be. With luck perhaps BJ has all the attributes in terms of leadership, ability and fitness to step into the breach. Truly hope so because a genuine and consistent leader and talisman is what this team has been missing for far too long.
See link to Mohammed Adil threads: he could well be the Taliban that we are seeking?
Wow Roger...thought you were better than that. I know we all say daft things sometimes but that, imo, really is one of the stupidest.Originally Posted by roger_ramjet
I'm sure Rogers comment is purely tongue in cheek with no intended malice or inference to religion. There was a joke opportunity and he took it. Enough said.

Looks as if Johnson might just be the guy. Though i'm more a believer in the team as a whole rather than one player leading the way.
