    True talisman missing link?

Just thinking about this and although we have had a number of star players and good squad for a few years now is what's been missing a true talisman or cult hero or both.

So Clough got McKay. Arthur cox introduced Kevin Keenan to a good squad at Newcastle to get success. At Derby he first got Mickey Lewis, and John Gregory, then Ted McMinn then Mark Wright and Shilton. Jim Smith got Stimach. The Dwarf got Seth Johnson back!

Just a thought but these all hit the ground in weeks as cult heros and that grew and grew. We just haven't had that. Might be because of fans of today but it has been missing.

Question could Bradley Johnson be this missing link for Derby City!

I think you are right about a talisman. Certainly Johnson looked the part yesterday and if he keeps up that level of performance he will become it naturally. BUT: We also have Thorne, Shackell and reinvigorated Keogh. All can do their part. I don't think such a hero is necessarily the best player. Just the one who puts himself in there and never stops.

But I don't see shackel (money motivated allegedly) or Thorne as a talisman. Good squad players but they lack charisma on and off the pitch.

The problem we are facing is lack of firepower to brake teams down and create better chances when pushing forward up field instead of creating the usual tight one touch passes backwards and forwards. A striker is what we are missing that special talisman up front who can bang in goals left, right and center.

A true talisman may well be in the premiership but, for now, we have bags of talented individuals who will mould into a formidable force at this level.
Johnson, Thorne, Keogh and Martin will take the role for now but at the next level we will need someone like that '' at the next level.

We have Sammon of course. He could be our talisman up front!

The talisman does not necessarily have to be any good, Mickey Lewis hardly pulled up any trees...so Sammon could do it. Why is it that all our Lewises seem to underperform, Eddie?

Surely Jake Buxton would fit all the criteria for cult hero status. Pity he isn't good enough to play for the team tho.
