Thread: Rams in for in-form Scottish striker

re: Rams in for in-form Scottish striker

Were Fester fans asking why they were looking at non league Vardy? There are gems out there in the lower leagues and this lad may be one of them. Until he is tested at a higher level you will not know. That's where a good scouting system comes in.

Well for a start your (as usual stretching the facts by misquoting me) though please show me the post where I actually said that, which you won't, because you can't!

Also I think your the only one waiting as most ignore your pointless *bleep*, shame really because as I posted on another thread you can actually contribute intelligently on occasion.

I was right on some and others have proven less successful, but I'd say a better strike rate than Clough who you seem to rate so highly.

McFarland - Tranmere, Davison - Halifax, Brayford - Crewe, Johnson - Cambridge and Northampton before being spotted for bigger things...the list is endless, have to agree there are 'gems out there' amongst the fools' gold. Unfortunately you can't really 'try before you buy' - loans apart - and you have to gamble to stand any chance of finding the next Vardy.

When Forest fans were attempting to take the p*** out of some of our cheaper purchases from lower league teams a few seasons ago it merely highlighted their lack of knowledge/memory of their own club particularly when you factor in their keenness to bang on about European achievements and the like.
They had clearly ignored five little words:

    Gary Birtles – Long Eaton United. ; - )

Of course there are gems out there. But all the onesd did not cost at least million which this lad will. I'm simply arguing that the money can be used on a player that has more chance on doing a job than a player in the Scottish Championship (which I put down as around non-league standard, if that).

As I said before, what do we do with him if we do buy with him? He's not going to be ahead of Martin any time soon. I doubt he'll be ahead of Bent either so we may a load of money for a player to stick in the reserves? Think about it.

Don't think anyone is suggesting it wouldn't be a gamble RBF, but the only person who has mentioned a one million pound fee is you...twice. Not sure where you get that figure from and for all I - or probably you - know, this lad might be anything from the next Dennis Law to the next Connor Sammon. Players can only perform at the level they're currently at and if our scouts have genuinely seen something that the owner thinks justifies the investment then that's about all there is to it imo. How else do you unearth the 'gems'?

A lad from a second tier Scottish League club who’s hit a bit of form? He won’t go for anything like a million (if he does at all) in my opinion. Johnny Russell was nowhere near that fee and he was at a Scottish Premier League side and also had teams competing to sign him.

only £1 million? IF the fee is that and I doubt it would be all up front, if the lads half decent then worth a gamble - irrespective of the standard of football in the Scottish championship (saying its non league is laughable) as I said before scouts will have made an assessment on his overall ability not solely based on his performances at the current level and it could be a shrewd investment in a couple of years time.

Dismissing him may not be an instant first team player is just short sighted thinking and thankfully the club, if not some fans are beyond that!

That's what I'm assuming. The amount of interest will mean Hibs will get pound signs in their eyes.

Where would I get gems from? England. Where the standard is undebatable. There's plenty of talent in league one which is only a step below the Championship and any of the teams in there would challenge Celtic.

AnagRam and Anywho, say we signed him this summer, what would you do with him?

Who knows, he could be an instant first teamer. I just don't see it, and our chance of getting promotion has not been this big in years. Is it really worth risking all that to take a chance on a player who could end up being absolutely nothing? We can't afford these kinds of risks for the sake of giving a player a chance. Some football fans think that every young lad ha
