It would seem from the article that the fishermen believe that EU regulations designed to keep stocks of fish high (and therefore safeguard fishing communities) are bad for the industry, but in the same breath give the excuse for abandoning them as the fact that stocks are now high again.
Do they give no credit to the EU policies for ensuring that stocks are high?
Do they not remember the last time they tried to get one over on Iceland when it comes to fishing grounds? I don't think the Cod Wars had anything to do with the EU, and I doubt very much if any of the North Atlantic countries will give up a square millimetre of ocean just because we have left the EU. The UK takes less than a quarter of what Iceland takes, and a third of what Norway takes, and a fifth of what is landed is fished from other EU countries' waters.
I suppose the best we can hope for is preventing fishermen from other EU nations fishing in Britain's waters.
I've yet to see anything that actually says how this is going to benefit Scottish fishermen or the Scottish fishing industry.

the CFP has failed miserably, why do you think countries like norway, iceland & faroe choose not to sign up to it?

if the CFP is designed to keep fish stocks high, then how can it work in the North Atlantic, North Sea when we seem to be the only country thats tied to a quota....soft sap scotland can only take so much, while norway, iceland & faroe can do what ever they want. Soft Sap Scotland can only have so big a fishing fleet....while our nearest & dearest (and I mean that in the loosest possible sense) have more boats than the spanish armada.

Aberdeen at one point and the biggest white fishing fleet in the UK and biggest fish market......and what have we now? phukk all that's what. All down to weak government after weak government selling our fishers doon the swany......that combined with directive after directive that actually favours our competitors then the sooner we get oot the EU and the CFP the better.

Norway, Iceland and the Faroe Islands are not members of the EU, and the CFP therefore does not apply to them. There is certainly a danger that abandoning the CFP will lead to reduced fish stocks in British waters. Iceland, Norway and the whale killers in the Faroes do not fish in British waters and will most certainly not allow British fleets to fish in theirs so in that respect there will be no difference in who catches what and where.
The regulations as I understand them are all to do with how much you can land. Any EU quotas would be replaced with British government quotas as it is highly unlikely they will be short-sighted enough to allow a fishing free-for-all that would see the fishing industry completely destroyed in a few decades. I honestly do not see huge advantages here

so why do you think norway, iceland and the faroes haven't signed up to the EU and in turn signed up to the CFP?

From what I can gather with Norway, the fishing thing was certainly one reason why they didn't - the sovereignty issue was the other. Iceland have applied but aren't in yet and their membership bid has been suspended and the Faroes don't give a flying fk about fish stocks and are happily doing their best to make the mackerel an endangered species.
As I have said, I just don't see what specific advantages leaving the EU will give our fishing industry in the long term. I am not saying it won't be a good thing - it may well be - but I just can't help thinking that every regulation put in place by the EU will be copied by any post-Brexit British government - however, even with all the regulations, it may well be that our fishing industry will benefit. I hope it will. I intend buying British where I can whatever category it is in. I am not boycotting non-British produce, but I won't be buying Irish beef or scheidty Irish cider (although that is more because it is pishwater) and I won't be buying non-British fruit or veg where possible. I think leaving the EU was a mistake, but I have no intention of making it any worse by being a cock about it...

Fairly sure the UK sold out the fishing industry to the EU for concessions elsewhere. They'll do the same during Brexit.

Without looking at the numbers, I'm not sure how much British fish is caught by non-British fishermen, although I know that 20% of the fish that British fishermen catch is from non-British EU waters. Like everything else in this it will be messy. The Europeans are adamant we are not getting special treatment so we need someone strong enough to tell them to do one and concentrate on British considerations as a whole and/or Scottish considerations in particular

Has anyone asked the fish what they think of all this?

I don't think anyone's told them we're out of the EU so it probably won't make a difference to them...
