Yes you're quite right it is gambling but with much higher stakes..... knowing the D/C set up that's why I bought in......
It's knowing when to get out that counts but I'm confident they will gain momentum as electrical items are an essential item of any modern household and will always be required be it a fridge... TV... Washer ... Dryer etc etc...
D/C control about 85% of the electrical UK market and their competitors are not big enough to take their lions share since the demise of comet so it's a win win as far as I can see....
