Khan seems like a good choice, if he is as good as his word (and I've listened to him quite a lot) Londoners should do well by him.

Regarding Southern's 'point', I'm guessing there was a Muslim influence in the outcome, Muslims/folk from the Indian Subcontinent are more likely than the general population to vote (in local elections) and much as the PC lobby hate to admit it there was bound to be a bit of 'voting for your own' (which is a worldwide trait, look at a vote that really matters, Eurovision), but none of that would have made the difference Khan would have needed to win by the margin he did.

Fair up to a point, but there assumes that the majority of UK citizens with a muslim or indian sub continent background actually see Khan as one of their own, which given the divisions in Iraq and elsewhere between different muslim sects and other religious groups is pehaps a dangerous assumption to make!

I believe he is Sunni which is by far the largest sub division of Islam with about 85% adherence.

yes its a complex issue, there was a prog on my radio station of choice where they interviewed a Seikh (I think) who was challenged on why he was voting for a Muslim and responded like to even ask the question was an insult, he voted based on the man not his religion, then a Muslim was interviewed who wasn't voting for him because of some esoteric sub-reason even I, with my massive brain lol couldn't understand! It certainly puts Derby/Forest into the shade

With respect Andy, I'm struggling to understand what you're struggling to understand.
Don't most sensible folk vote for the person and what he/she stands for rather than what race/religion/culture they are identified with? In a perfect world I think we'd be better off without any religion (although having said that I've got more time for the current Archbishop of Canterbury than virtually all politicians) but I certainly vote for the individual's ideals, aims and character rather than any side issues like race and religion.

P.S. and even further OT...That's why I struggle with Corbyn...quite like many of his philosophies but he comes across like a teenage idealist in a seventy year old body...knows what he wants but never any flesh on the bones of how we get there.

Think that's 'with all due respect', which usually means, 'what's due is **** all'. In this case, that's not what was meant. If anything it meant...'it's a tad contentious but I'm not being accusatory'...because some have been known to misinterpret and take the hump.
    Hope that's clear.
