Great memories.
Oh yes, I'd forgotten about the other two locations. The one I used mostly was at the exterior of the market because it was conveniently close to the college.
Buying music in those days was an enjoyable experience and I would say I got most of my vinyl singles, EPs and LPs from the Sound of Music with just the occasional ones coming from Brittains record department.
Unfortunately my vinyl collection now resides in the loft having been mostly replaced by CDs or downloads.
Obtaining music is much simpler nowadays but it's nowhere nearly as much fun as it was in the 60s and 70s.

Seems we all had similar experiences in to 70s in pursuit of vinyl in Rotherham. Sound of Music and Brittains and wasn't there a place at the bottom of the hill below Sound of Music, in the Advertiser building, Spinadisc? I even remember my parents buying those 'Hot Hits' compilation albums from Woolies where all the songs were by cover artists.

Hot Hits, now they were a dreadful concept!
I think I may have one of those albums in my loft although I'll claim someone must have bought it for me

We definitely had a number of them around the time of hits like Downtown (Pet Clarke), Oh bla de (Beatles), Sugar Sugar (Arches) all done by 'other' artists under the mfp label (Music for Pleasure). Not sure what happened to the albums, guess my sister has them. Looking on Ebay I don't think they'd fetch enough to fund the retirement but I do remember why I liked the album covers as a ****age boy

Yes indeed, the album covers were much more attractive than what was inside

I've seen a mention of Charades in an earlier post but does anyone remember the Pendulum club which I think was upstairs in the Advertiser building.
As I recall they used to play more offbeat music there and not so much of the mainstream stuff.
The place was often raided by the police looking for drugs and I have vivid memories of ****agers rushing to the toilets to get rid of whatever they had with them, mainly purple hearts I guess.
I went there a few times but the music they played wasn't really to my taste. Long sessions of Jimi Hendrix used to get a bit wearing!

Tom, before I started going to the Charade I used to go to a place on Moorgate, woman on the door, stamp and a pink raffle ticket if you wanted to go out and come back, no booze allowed but crates of coke for sale. Sort of cellar rooms and soul type music, Booker T and Edwin Starr etc. Must have been the place you mention but I couldn't remember the name. Brawls outside not unknown either.
