I don't mind sharing my past time there with you lot....Coming from a single parent family of four I recall 'Filey' home very well .....

I spent a fortnight there in 66 with my Sister... hated the gestapo couple that ran it... the only thing I found friendly while there was Jason their white Labrador....

Walking down the lane to the beach seeing all the posh kids with their parents riding the train ( a tractor under a fibre glass shell) made us realise how poor we were as we couldn't afford the fare to ride it...

Playing cricket under the large oak tree and being hit above the eye with a cricket bat getting knocked out and waking up to have three cat gut stitches inserted.... they were wipped out before we went home hoping my mum didn't see the damage...she did and played merry hell!

I could tell loads of stories on Filey home but they are actually a tad upsetting recalling them...

Sounds like somewhere Jimmy Savile used to visit.

I went in 1980 with East Dene school.

I loved it and spent most of week snogging birds.

    Character building that place.

Razorbill and Puffin were the names of the other two.

I also had a really awful experience there circa 1982/3.....a schoolmate of mine (Ian) shat himself in the portacabin classroom round the back of the house during the evening debrief. Headmaster Copley of Thorpe Hesley Juniors was not impressed.

Reading Brin's account and some of the others, did Rothbiz get the wrong picture?
