The fact of the matter is that, regardless of your opinions on poppies, or the wearing thereof, the armed forces are at the mercy of the government, and whether that government acts legally or not is not their concern. As Alfred Lord Tennyson said, "Ours not to reason why, ours but to do and diel"
You may not like the 'puppets' terminology, but it is pretty close to reality.
