    Wigan Post Match Thoughts

After today I promise I won't mention 'squeaky bum' time ever again at half time even if we are 10-0 in front

Post your thoughts here. Is there hope or just false hope?

    Phew!!!

still in there, still fighting - we have our spirit back, albeit fragile at times, it will be recovered if we stick the the task and play with warrior spirit - and a couple of well considered additions in the transfer window

    Second half abysmal.
    Lucky their goal was disallowed.

    Good first half
    Adeyemi MOTM for me
2nd half rubbish, Newell isn't 100% yet, was shattered

    A wins a win

    Strange game really.

We deservedly lead at half time despite the fact that we kept pumping the ball to Danny Ward who never had a look in, in the air, against that pylon. That's when Price wasn't kicking it straight into touch. But we played some great stuff and could have been 4 up.

Difficult to understand why we went all "stubbsy" in the second half. They obviously upped their game but still only had 3 shots on target in the match. Very disappointed with the lack of closing down on the edge of the area for their goals.
The second half domination by one of the worst teams in the league is a real concern.

Still - We won! We scored 3! We have momentum. I am highly delighted.

agree, a win is a win. We need to learn to carry on pressing even when we are 3-0 up. That is our defence.

Many of our players, including Adeyemi and Newell, still look only fit enough for 45 minutes. Thought Adeyemi had his best first half of his Millers career, then back to normal second half. Good first half team performance generally, but it was only against the second bottom team in the championship.
Mattock and Fisher looked vunerable a lot of the time, and both needlessly got booked after stupid mistakes. We need new full-backs in January. Couldn't blame Price for the goals conceded, but his kicking was awful.

Happy with the three points, just glad that the match didn't go on for another 10 minutes (We wouldn't have held on under Stubbsy anyway - so that's an improvement)

Thought defence did there job. Adeyemi & Frecks solid. D Ward pick up front. Izzy Brown is to much of a luxury player. Forde is in the side cause he tracks back. I wouldn't play Newell, play Vaulks so we're not overrun in midfield like today 2nd half.

These next 2 games if we can put ourselves closer to the pack at the bottom get into the transfer market. Big striker & Right winger who can track back & beat a man top priorities.

Personally I think two full backs should be high on the priority list for January.
Fisher was awful today, and has been for a while.
Mattock is nowhere near the player he was and too many crosses come in from that side.
Warney has talked about signing 4 players in January with pace and power.
Hope he manages to get at least that many but, to really strengthen the team, he probably needs to bring 5 or 6 in and ship quite a few out.
    Interesting times ahead.
