    The best argument for a monarchy is that we don't have a numpty politician as head of state. And unlike most european countries we haven't had military coups or communist or fascist dictators, so why get rid of it?

    Because the Royal Family and their hundreds of hangers-on, and the whole aristocracy, including the House of Lords, are public funds teat-sucking layabout subsidy junkies.

    House of Lords has nothing to do with the monarchy, that should definitely be abolished.

    A president and their hangers on would also be huge subsidy junkies, as you put it.

    Yet, elected, and therefore accountable , and capable of being removed from office by popular vote.

    That seems preferable to me.

    no fan of royal family but at least the queen wants out of the eu , pity the politicians are not listening to her or the public who voted leave, she should be having a word with may about this telling her to get it sorted now.
