Paul Warne will carry on being manager next season if TS wants him to![]()
Fitness coach? If appointed is it until the end of the season?. Makes sense if so as Warne probably can't do do both jobs.
Bit of a left field suggestion this one but what about Stephen Kenny? Never heard of him? Kenny is the current manager of Dundalk FC in the League of Ireland. Youngish at 45 years old. Apart from a spell at Dunfermline, where he led them to a Scottish Cup Final in 2007, he’s managed in the Irish Leagues, where he’s been really successful. In the past 4 years he’s overseen a complete reversal of fortunes at Dundalk F.C, who were struggling and nearly went bankrupt before he joined. The club has won the League of Ireland Premier League twice, and gone further in Europe than any Irish club before them. They came within one match of competing in club football’s most prestigious competition: The Champions League, and are currently doing well in the Europa League.
An ex-colleague of mine has watched Dundalk on a few occasions, over the past couple of seasons. He reckons Kenny could be a success in the English leagues, with the right team. He says his teams are built on a solid defence and like to pass the ball and build from the back.
Kenny’s stock is high within the Irish F.A. He’s being touted as a possible successor to Martin O’Neill for the RoI manager’s job and is a highly rated coach in European football. A number of Irish players have recently moved into the English leagues. Andy Boyle and Darryl Horgan recently joined Preston North End from Dundalk and Richie Towell has joined Brighton and Hove Albion, so there is a potential market that can be tapped into for decent players. A manager like Kenny would be well placed to exploit this.
I know people will say that we went down a similar route with Stubbs, but Kenny’s team has more that held its own in Europe and he seems like a manager that is destined for greater things. An opportune time to nip in for him, while he is on the up and up.
I’m a bit board of the usual suspects being linked to the manager’s job. I don’t think Warne is in for the long haul managerially and I’d like to see a bold and imaginative appointment for next season. If T.S is true to his word and says we’ll have one of the biggest budgets for L1, if (when) we go down, it could just be the right time to take that step. It sounds like Kenny could easily make the transition from the mainly part time Irish League to League 1, and it probably wouldn’t cost the earth to get him to the NYS.
Just putting it out there.
If Paul Warne gets the job for next season is it likely that John Breckin will be prepared to stay on as his assistant and would he be the right man for that job?
I'm not so sure and wouldn't be surprised to see one or two new coaching appointments to follow on from the fitness coach although, initially, he's only here on a weekly contract to the end of the season.
Warnes. Well at least TS gets two for the price of one![]()
Post No. 15
Good read Neville_Davitt.
I could go along with that, have to admit I don`t know too much about Dundalk F.C. or the Irish Leagues.
Thanks for the read much appreciated.
