Forget about what happened and get Steve back as there is absolutely nobody with a better record.

Double his pay if he gets us promoted and get him in as soon as possible.

Maybe some fans, rightly or wrongly, did want rid of Evans because they thought he wasn't capable of managing in the Championship. But surely nobody can question his credentials for getting success in league one and league two. The fact is that we've gone downhill since he left and despite claims (probably true) that he over-relied on loan signings and churning players, we still had a stronger core to the squad back then than we've had since. Having said all that, I very much doubt he'll be coming back for reasons with which most are familiar.

Problem is that if he does get us up first time we will be in the same state as now. SE is a great motivator, but, and here's the rub, I don't think he is technically astute enough for the championship. He can however, spot a player, but then seems to pee them off with his tactics and personality. Allegedly Pringle, Arnie and Morgan would have stayed but for SE. We also don't know the real reasons why he went. No Kempo, if we are going to go with someone with past Miller connections, I would personally stick with Hurst.

I don't suppose we will ever learn the full story about Evans departure and dealing with players(and why should we?). However, I cannot see TS going back for him. That ship has sailed and we are now looking at building again. Who knows who the next appointment will be and if it will be successful. Funny thing football. For example, less than 15 months ago Barnsley were looking at League 2. They'd plucked a manager from Oldham and he had lost 8 games on the trot. They recover and he then goes to a "bigger club". His assistant takes over and the rest is history.

It would appear that Hursty is getting the managerial fundamentals right so perhaps he could do well. Worth a try if we are to go down the past player/manager route.

Stevo will only come back to NYS with the Stags. Beggers belief that anyone wanted Evo to go, just astonishes me what some so-called fans want in a manager. Well now you know the flip side of the coin eh!!
