O/T South Yorks Buses & Encouraging People to Use Public Transport

Not been on a bus for a while but the car is being repaired and found out there is no longer a bus from Wath to Meadowhall and you have to change in Rotherham, how pathetic is that, no direct bus to the major shopping centre in the area!

Really encourages people to use public transport. Used to have a good bus service here but seems they have made a mess of it.

Always the blame game with you isn't it? If they ran a bus along that route every hour, even though no one used it and it made a massive loss, you'd be bleating about the waste of money....

If you're looking for someone to blame, look in the mirror, you, the car driver, is the one at fault, plain and simple.

Falling demand, rising running costs, loss of subsidies...

We did used to have a good bus service, that was when it actually was public transport and the service was subsidised out of taxation. Then the services were privatised and capitalism took over. There is clearly not enough demand for that route so it has gone, market forces at their finest. Surely you aren't suggesting we go back to the old socialist system GF?

Slipped up there GF. Seem to remember the tories burgering the buses up in the 80s when they put them into private hands when deregulating. Still ya reap what ya sow eh? Monetarist policies eh? Thatcherism at its best. (Add to that housing/ public utilities etc. the list goes on and we are still suffering).

(I remember getting a bus from Brinny to Totley for 20p in the early 80s. What would it be now? I hate to think! The 287 also ran from Maltby to Totley in those days. I doubt if that service still exists cos no fecker could afford to use it).

They did have one every hour, the 229 (then changed to 228 I think) was always busy, far more people shop in Meadowhall than Rotherham, seems a bizarre decision to cancel the service.

Yes it was very cheap but it was subsidised and we were paying for it, council taxes shouldn't go on subsidising bus fairs.

Yorkshire Traction was fine unsubsidised, it has been First/ Stagecoach who have buggered everything up.
