Can we all establish what is understood by 'xenophobia' before rushing to judge. I offer this description...

'...fear and mistrust of what is perceived to be foreign or strange...including a fear of losing identity, suspicion of its activities, aggression and desire to eliminate its presence to secure a presumed purity'.

I don't think that's so wide of the mark as far as TTR is concerned but let's just consider this in relation to the perception of Muslims in this country for a moment. There can be no doubt that there has been/may still be a problem with 'grooming gangs' in this country and that the majority of those gangs are of Pakistani/Muslim origin. To deny this would be irresponsible. Equally there can be no doubt that such gangs represent a minority, that the vast majority of Muslims in this country are perfectly well behaved, socially responsible individuals and that actually the majority of child abuse in this country is conducted by white males acting at an individual level.

The difference between the more level headed and logical approach to this situation and the xenophobic approach is that while the former will recognise the balance I have described, the xenophobe will concentrate solely on the negative. I would suggest that this is very much the case where TTR's attitude to Germans and Syrians, at least, is concerned and that therefore the term 'xenophobe' - which isn't actually the greatest of insults - in relation to Tricky is not without foundation.

My slightly longer response, to avoid being told I have the brain of a silverfish, is that as individuals I welcome all who come in peace and want to contribute in any way. My last two recruits were a uk resident Chinese and a uk born Hindu, I just lost with regret a Chinese Muslim and my daughters coloured and frankly scary looking pals are part of our 'family of friends'. BUT I maintain that the sheer volume of immigrants whether here to graft, sponge or destabilise is unsustainable. I also believe that the Muslim community on balance are more interested in hijacking our (british) progress and moulding it to their belief structure than in integration.

Swales " At least I'm capable of sentient thought which you clearly are not " You should think about that with your repeated bullying of R4j.

'I also believe that the Muslim community on balance are more interested in hijacking our (British) progress and moulding it to their belief structure than in integration'. Really? On the basis of what evidence?

I think that's the sort of thing that certain sections of society might have said, albeit less articulately, about the Irish and 'Blacks' in the early sixties. Coming from you - an intelligent 'Christian' setting up 'home' in another country - I find it surprising and equally disturbing, not to mention, a tad hypocritical.

Islamic faith schools and a desire to introduce elements of sharia law are two examples of changing our society to fit themselves.

Not saying its good or bed but you wanted examples of such

No, I don't want a 'spat' either. It's untypical of you, imo, but you haven't said why you believe Muslims are 'moulding our society to their belief structure'. It'll be easier for me to answer the hypocritical aspect after you've explained that 'belief'. Suffice it to say that an English chap abroad, drinking cider and watching Championship football in a possibly English populated bar is hardly likely to be embracing the Spanish way of life and is therefore on dodgy ground when criticising Muslims wanting to retain aspects of their culture.

Roger...I too am opposed to all 'Faith Schools'...Muslim, Catholic, C of E...whatever, but fail to see how Islamic schools are any more devisive than the other examples. Take your point about Sharia Law but wonder quite how widespread that desire is.
