    Question New contract for Arfield...

Hope SD and Dave Baldwin can sort out Scotty's signature on a new three year deal.

    ...and soon?

He's a gritty player BT, but a new 3 year contract ? Not for me as we need better.

Thing is Alto, Scotty is reliable, versatile and solid as a rock.

There are better quality players around but not many emulate him as a Premier League squad player who will accept instructions and carry them out to the letter.

I would like him to see out his career with us because he epitomises everything this football club of ours is about.

You are spot on BT. how many of these big ego players do you see moaning and groaning about their lot?? Not our Mr Arfield. I agree he is not top draw as a premier league player but he will apply himself and get the job done. In some situation you have to say "better the devil you know" and I think 2/3 year deal is not unreasonable. The reality for us is if he was a super star the big clubs would take him off us and our other worse case situation is a player who think he is better than he is; eg. a certain striker now at Watford who creates unhappiness in the camp. Our strategy depends on togetherness/unity; better then a player we know can deliver than an unproven punt in the transfer market. I am not arguing that we should not improve our players of course not, but those who deliver we should try to keep within an overall squad system.

I'll get shot for this as he scored a good goal Saturday ( took it well ) , however after that he got ran all over the top off .
So whilst I like Arfield he gets eased of the ball too easily and doesn't have pace to get away from players, ( we couldn't keep the ball - not entirely his fault that accepted but he's weak )so he's a good man to have around I agree but if I had a choice it's not for me.

We need younger Quick - Strong athletic players to compete

He does his best does Scotty, but we're running a football club in one of the hardest leagues in the world, not a charity for mediocre players. If we can bring in better we have to, and Scotty will have to go. C'est la vie.

I do not think Arfield fits into the "mediocre player" band.
