O/T Why is everybody starting to say - "I mean" ?

    It's driving me mad.

Every interview on the radio - "Yeah I mean...." "Well I mean..." "Look I mean...."

Has anybody else noticed it ?

I know I need to get out more (to use a saying from a few years ago)

The ones that do my head in are "to be fair" and "I won't lie to you"

Worst of all is the epidemic of HRI that is infusing the speech of media people and particularly those under the age of 30. This way of speaking began its life (allegedly) in Australia and some people label it Australian speech. HRI stands for High Rising Intonation, whereby the speaker's tone goes upward towards the end of a sentence and rather like your tone changes when asking a question.
Google 'uptalk' if you don't know what I'm on about.

My niece used to say the word "right" after every sentence, right. It was really annoying, right. Thankfully, now that she's nearly 15, she seems to have grown out of it.
