We have an housing shortage because the population is growing out of all proportion and both governments of Tory and Labour didn't invest enough in building new ones.
    1. People die. Have you noticed. How many houses around you have the same people in them that were there in 1990, 2000, 2010 even?
    2. People in council houses move 'up the ladder' and become owner occupiers in private housing.
    3. Although we're short of housing generally, it's in the first buyers /affordable homes category that there's a chronic shortage. Council housing offered a solution to this.
    4. Having state-owned rented property gives a FLEXIBILITY to housing property which we currently do not have.

oh nice body swerve Sid, dodged that bullet completely.
Civil housing should have a time limit on it and means tested. You get your house for say, 10 years. Then pay your way like everyone else. Pity Bob Crow thought he'd rape the nation all that time, whilst on a £145 k salary
    Man was a parasite.

Well on the close where I live out of the top 8 houses (I live on a hill) we were last to move in 29 years ago so they do all have the same people in them and all are brilliant neighbours.
