Given was an average goalkeeper and a Dracula terrified of crosses. He wasn't a brace goalkeeper and used to go in with his feet on a one on one.

How many times did you see him do a star jump on the line when he could of gone out and collected the ball

He got found out in one season at City.

Now Dave Hollins & Ronnie Simpson were great goalkeepers.

They were and so was Jack Fairbrother and I've always felt Steve Harper, not in with the very best, but was under rated because of Given's "star" quality.

Agree Bill Harper was as good or if not better than Given who was only average anyway.

    Ok then chomp!

Willie McFaul easiest the best keeper ever, great distribution, excellent at crosses, best shot stopper I have seen personally in the black and white.Oh and he had a 22 year stint at the club...

He might have had competition wi Simpson though..How auld are yee feckers?.

Willie McFaul was up with the best too Ash but unfortunately being only 5'9" he lacked the height for a goalie. Had he been another 5" or 6" taller he may have been one of the greats of the game.

McFaul was very underestimated and a great servant go the Club. By the way Ash I’m 64 started going to the Toon when I was 6. I stopped going shortly after Ashley started pulling his stunts.
