    O/T Good news

Received tonight that my 17yo grandson has made it into the full academy and is now contracted to Leicestershire CCC.

Roll on summer and good weather.

What's his name GLM so we can lookout for him?

A lad from Stourbridge who was good mates of one of my best mates was a wicket keeper in the 90's,a decent footballer as well,Phil
    Whitticase.

Just checked him on wiki and it says he's from Solihull but he used to play with my mate for Norton in the Kidderminster Sunday league and they were a cracking young side managed by another guy I and they went to school with,Colin Gordon who's now owner of Kiddie Harriers and an ex pro himself with Blues and Leicester amongst others.

I gather he's coaching at Leicester cricket now so you may know of him?

If you do ask him if he remembers Norton FC and my good mate "Winnie" and Richard Stafford....another right character!

Big Leicestershire stalwart Mick...my grandsons name is Nicholas 'Nick' Green. Strange thing is the grandson was a decent footballer as a junior but always preferred cricket...as a 4yo he came to me with a little drawing of matchstick men in a cricket game and said "I want to be a cricketer grandad". I know I am bound to be a bit biased but I'm also a realist and I can't find an area where he is weak, when he is batting he can hit every point of the compass, much to the chagrin of a few good bowlers last season.

I'll keep a hopeful eye out for him.

I remember seeing Stuart Broad bowling for Leicester at 17/18 years old and I knew he was a world beater so I hope the lad does as well.

If he does bowl can you ask him to pitch the f kin thing up more regularly than Broad and Anderson do,especially in Australia.

I'm no genius but it does my head in watching our bowlers bowling back of a length when conditions dictate otherwise!

Batsmen like Vince and Buttler do my head in as well and Hales and many others.

A flash 30 is no good to anyone, getting out for 100-110 is no good either,FFS......do what Boycott always says and add two wickets to whatever score your team is at.....240-3 can easily be 250-5 and 280 all out!

If you're going to be a truly top player you'll average 50-60 in test cricket and 40-50 in one dayers with a strike rate of 130-150 per 100 balls so aim for that.

If you can't bat for a day then have a re think and work out how to manage it.....the greats always do.

He's a fairly quick right arm bowler he does keep it up there...left hand bat and gives it the full face of the bat, pretty quick scorer usually around three an over has batted long innings several tons last season, got on the honours board for a 140 when chasing a big total. I think his best innings was against the team that won the league that he plays in he made 114 off 112 balls...one of their bowlers has played for Notts first team...nasty team, one bowler actually used threats of violence for which the umpires took to task and he is banned next season for 6 games...the lad just stood there and kept nedding them, he's got a good temperament.

He also played a really long innings versus Middle*** academy who made a colossal amount of runs, lad batted for ages to force the draw.

Great news GLM buddy...you must be very proud.
I had a bit of coaching as a lad at Edgbaston in the 60s and played on the County ground once (and the nursery ground next door) But, in hindsight, I wasn’t good enough.
One of the lads I played with though went on to represent England Schoolboys and made a ton against the Public Schools. Surprisingly, he didn’t make it at County level in later life.
Mickd....Boycott was (is) my hero...as a fellow tyke....I loved his philosophy when batting...concentrate on making 10...then concentrate on making 20...then etc.etc.
I shall look out for Nick.

Thanks Prando...as far as Boycott is concerned...you don't make 100 tons without being a bit tasty...remember his 100th ton when he straight drove through the legs of Roope who was batting at the other end.
