Funny thing 'tho I liked visits to Crystal Palace & ended up living in Sydenham S26 for two years cos of it.

My favourite 3 grounds following Leeds ........

In UK of 1970/99....Anfield,Old Trafford & Highbury in the days when away fans stood behind the goal end.(Brian Flynn '81)!

In UK 2000/18....... Emirates,White Hart Lane & Selhurst Park.

In UK grounds now gone ......The Dell,Maine Road & Ninian Park.

    In Europe ........ Real Madrid/Bernabéu 2001,Stadio Olimpico/Roma 2000 & San Siro AC Milan 2000.

Most farcical away ground moment ..... missing most of the second half at the Withdean stadium Brighton during our League 1 campaign season due to my gold bracelet lucky charm falling down the plug hole in a portable ladies loo at halftime ... stewards were not helpful so my brother basically dismantled all the pipe work to locate it amongst other 'items' within the piping. Now that ground/athletic track may be one of the worst venues for football I've visited.

Figuratively and actually a ****e ground then?

Certainly Not a Sloane Boy! My first stint at college was based in South Kensington, so I was there for a couple of years (the student housing has since been demolished - well, it was close to the Iran embassy!), West Kensington for one and then near Sherlock Holmes' gaff off of the Edgware Road for one.

I can't imagine that students can afford to live anywhere near there now.

I also went to our CL group game at the Bernabeu. Luckily it didn't matter that we lost - although there was definitely a weird bounce for one of their goals.

    Happy (away) days.

Small world Org - lived off Edgware Road in a hovel at Warwick Avenue near Paddington Green too, just down the Westway from you.

The fascination of attending nearby Speakers Corner/Marble Arch possibly gave me the strength to vocally 'analyse' other folks opinions.................

Oh,think Stamford Bridge/Chelsea was nearer for you back then but in hindsight better off giving them a wide birth ........... needed binoculars to see the pitch from behind the Bridge goals back then and 360 degree vision to stop getting attacked too.... happy days & hopefully more to come .............

I'm a bit embarrassed to say that I didn't really make the most of watching football in the Big Smoke back then (1981 - 1985).

No good reasons why - lack of cash perhaps - it did also coincide with us being, well, a bit crap?

    Fair weather student gobshyte!

Whilst there, I shared flats with a couple of Spuds and Wednesday fans - I remember we did all go to the Spurs v QPR FA Cup final replay (just because we had nothing better to do). It was a pretty dull affair, if I remember rightly.

Still better than any MLS game. Ever.

if you have been to the eithiad , reebok, emirates , riverside , etc, then you will know what i am talking about . all seater stadiums killed the atmostphere , at many grounds , old trafford , emirates , stadium of light , are some of the biggest grounds in the country , but are like libraries most of the time . the change from to standing to all seater grounds , priced many of the working class fans out of the game. its not a working class sport anymore , paying 40,50,60, quid a time proves that point entirely .

Marley I'm impressed with your posts on this thread, no lol'ing or editing!

But joking aside I agree, prices for all clubs are too much now

Think it's 15-20 quid at my local ground the Shay and they're part time in the conference!

Talking of the Shay though, it's one of my favourite away stadiums, other is the nou camp

I totally agree with you about the cost and the lack of connection to working class or even middle class fans for premier league teams - and the prices reflecting that. It's getting more and more like basketball in the US. In some ways for that reason i feel like the championship is a more 'honest' league - and maybe if we were to be promoted we would lose our own sense of identity and connection a bit. Would you agree?

the prices would sky rocket if promotion was ever achieved , but we have no worries on that score anytime soon. lol

elland road is already one of the most expensive grounds in the country, despite this club been out of the top flight for a very long time now.

despite that , if promotion was achieved , they would be at least ten thousand fans come out of nowhere, only too willing to pay through the nose , but you have to get a successful team first of all.

the introduction of all seater stadiums, and outrageous ticket prices , killed the game for an whole generation of fans.

Anywhere you can get a good thumpin' down the alley outside Tichi, (by the police AND the opposition fans) and where you had to be pressed up against a metal barrier so that your insides were crushed whilst the bloke next to you p issed on your leg. Obviously. Doh.
