    Selling Lascelles

Firstly - i don't want to sell him, i don't want him sold, I want him kept here as i think he'll become a great captain and even better player for us.

However he has been linked in some papers with moves away and today it was said that it would cost £30 million to get him and that we are hoping that figure will mean likes of Chelsea, Everton and West Ham will back away.

Firstly on the cost - that is miniscule really for a home-grown player that has proved they can play extremely well in the premiership. I would be looked at much more than that, i'm not saying he is worth it (although he is priceless to us) but in this monied day and age £30 million is a snip, particularly to the likes of Chelski and Everton with the way they chuck money about.

Secondly, it could just be press sewage in the price but does anybody else get the same bad feeling in the way that Sissoko's price was "put" out there to drive people away but really to let people know the price and to get a bidding war going.

30mil for Lascelles is a joke! 55-60 is more like it.

I agree, Jammy, and I think most of us would-selling Lascelles would be disastrous.

Not just because of his worth as a player, which has been proved by the stats with and without him but because of the way he has become a leader, because of the bond he is forming with the fans which began after he spoke out during the relegation season, because of what it would say about the limits of our ambition. I know he's not the finished article but he's already progressed massively and has the potential to become a lot, lot better-both as a player and as a leader.

Selling him would send the wrong message on and off the pitch and whilst £30 million for an up and coming English CB isn't too shabby, to us he is worth so much more than that and his loss would affect us far more than the loss of 'just' a player.

I think that although he'll be on the radar of the biggy moneybags few he will be content to stay if he has the assurances that we are making an attempt to go somewhere under Rafa with a plan of progress and improvement.

Chelsea and Liverpool will be licking their lips, even at £40m.

Crazy low valuation in today's market.

Van Dijk is not twice as good as Lascelles.

It's a moot point anyway, Rafa wont let him go and Lascelles has said he is definitely staying. Having said that, his value has to be north of 50 mil in this market.

selling our best players boils down to one thing. The ambitions of the owner. Rafa will have a big say on transfers but we all know that Mike Ashley loves to turn a profit. If a club came in offering north of 50m for Lascelles, i think it would be him gone. Anything under that and it will be giving him away, not because he is worth that much but that is the going rate for a player of his quality. Look at Van Dijk and Maguire, id not say either of them are better than Lascelles.

I remember reading years ago that Ashley wanted to emulate the Lyon way on transfers. Play hardball and get as close to 3x the players value but already have a suitable replacement of equal or better quality lined up.

Yes but who could we line up as a suitable replacement in value for money. Ashley simply doesn't understand the market just because we got lucky with Cabaye, Carroll and Sissoko. It will be a long long before those days return.

god knows mate, i for one would rather we kept hold of our best players and actually built a capable squad.
If Rafa can get rid of the deadwood and fringe players this summer and replaced them with players capable of challenging for a first team spot, we can actually start to build and challenge for the top 6.

Players to leave this summer / wont be missed as didnt contribute last season - 35m ?
Mbemba, Haidara, Gamez, Saivet, Aarons, Mitrovic, Sels, Lazaar, Colback

Other possabilities to leave that will need replacing - 20m?
    Darlow, Elliot, Gayle, Manquillo, Joselu

A potential 55m worth of income, with say 50m budget, could get us a goalscorer, a number 10, a keeper, a fullback
    to replace Darlow etc.

Even if we went and cherry picked from the relegated sides or the ones there abouts.
    GK - Fabianski 5m, Pieters 6m, Tadic 10m, Allen 12m, Shaquiri 15m, Ayew 15m (63m)

They are a significant improvement on the outgoing players, even put a loan bid in for that greasy kid who plays for Villa, get him prem football until they get promoted

I also think the prices muted for Mitro are way too low. International player, young, now in the Premier league. I'd say bidding starts at 20.
