    Great North Museum is good. The Discovery Museum has Stephenson's Rocket until September (both are free but you need a ticket for the Discovery).

    Castle Keep, obviously. Take a walk through Exhibition Park and have a pint at Wylam Brewery and get down to the Ouseburn where there are some mint pubs (Cluny, Tyne Bar, Cumberland, etc). Jesmond Dene lush for a walk too.

    when looking at architecture around greys monument... dont forget to check out grey street from top and from bottom - voted the best street in the uk - but also pop into the central arcade - all the tile work was cleaned/restored a few years ago - it's beautiful.

    everywhere else has already been mentioned.. except bamburgh castle - if you have use of a car

    The old George was a coaching inn , the crown posada was built as a pub .. Hence the oldest pub

    Would you believe it was a shilling a pint when I was in there last. Mind you that was in the early 60's
