    Don't know whether this is true or not, but can you imagine Ferguson or Shankley picking a team out of sentimentality?

    I'm afraid though the standard for this league is nothing like League 1.

    You're probably right. What he had not taken into account was that two of our best "Wembley" players are no longer available to play for us, and have not been adequately replaced... yet. (There is still hope)

    Weren't both of them ex defenders?

    Maybe, but the important thing is that they were both good managers

    But the point is they were brought up on a diet of good defending and they knew how important it was to have a sound defence.

    We've got Warne & Barker, both forwards so no real instinct on how to train defenders.

    All this is true naked but the point I was making is that they were both totally ruthless. It didn't matter what the players won the previous season, it was all about the here and now and the best possible team. Sentiment did not enter into their heads.
