Disagree m8 I should have said 2 1l2 games as he was poor first half Vs Ipswich. I Thought vyners best game was Vs wigan. He was more attacking and stopped most crosses from that side.
We had this with Emmanuel last season who also needed time to settle in.
We need to be patient with him he will come good ..
Hull played everything down their right side yesterday. Was that there strength or a tactical weakness that they had seen in mattock.. they even put a left footed tricky winger in there the 2nd half who tore mattock a new ahole.
I guess when teams are collectivly that few % better than us we have to be on it for 95 minutes. Sadly yesterday we started wrong formation,
I see why Taylor gets Infront of Newell and forde in a 451 formation though please warne. Not at home and not Vs a weaker team..
after 3 seasons of watching these wingers most millers would agree. Taylor and Newell always look better as impact players when the opposition are getting tired. So for me Williams and forde are the two starters.
Playing 451 at home was wrong, Smith on his own, with no one to play to.
Mattock had a dreadful night, & gave away the first goal.
Rodak should have caught the ball on their second goal, he's gone back to punching the ball instead of catching it, so at fault.
Ajayi at fault for their 3rd goal.
Taylor was not in the game, maybe should have started with Forde.
Paul Warne has to pick a side with 2 attackers up front at home, otherwise getting points is going to be hard, & we will be at the
bottom of the league in no time.
We gave Hull too much respect first half instead of seeing them as a team with a poor start and there to be got at. 4-5-1 with Smith too isolated wasn't working. When we made changes and started to push more men forward and believe we could get another goal we were more threatening.
My big concern is that we never seem to learn from our mistakes. It's the same old, same old.
Bit bemused that some people are saying Hull were awful.
Whilst their defence and attack were mediocre I thought their midfield were really good.
Balls to feet, quick touch, instant control, good movement. Having said that we did make it easy for them but nevertheless they certainly had the skill.
Even if we had gone 442 the result would probably have been the same in my opinion. We couldn't cope when we had 5 in the middle so one less wouldn't have worked. Besides which we did go 442 and then 433 towards the end. PW does this most games either to press on for the win or cement the winning position. PW usually makes his key substitutions around the 60 min mark.
The problem PW had last night was that we were 1-3 down by then which wasn't in his plan and is very difficult to recover from in this league.
However, with his changes we did recover and we should have been level.
The issue for me is not the tactics or formation it is the defence, defence, defence as Tony Blair used to say
Mattock was poor last night but, in fairness, Williams lost the ball so many times and failed to track back leaving poor old Joe to deal with a winger in full flight.
Neither full back is good enough and to blame Taylor for Vyner's inadequacies is missing the point. You could put a brick wall in front of Vyner and he'd still get the wrong side of it. Jones must be really out of favour if he can't get in the team ahead of this lad.
I thought Palmer might be our breakthrough player this season but he's been woeful so far and would have trouble breaking out of a paper bag.
Some people were saying earlier on that Vaulks should be captain. What? He shouldn't even be in the team because he usually provides an extra midfielder for the opposition as he gives them the ball so many times.
Taylor? How does he get a starting place? He just runs around aimlessly, loses the ball routinely and contributes little.
Personally I would like to see Smith and Proctor as a front two, Vassell in for Taylor, Ajayi in central midfield for either Vaulks or Palmer (until we get another midfielder in), Jones instead of Vyner and Robertson brought in to shore up central defence.
Can't be any worse than the starting line up last night when Manning was our best player by a country mile.......and he's not even ours ☹
The issue for me is not the tactics or formation it is the defence, defence, defence as Tony Blair used to say[/QUOTE]
Well, we have quite a few weapons of self destruction!
Lets be honest,we were outclassed for 75 mins by a side who are going to be in the bottom four come the end of the season, personally i would not pay Mattock and Ajayi in green shield stamps, both are a total liability at this level,in fact if Ajayi was to be described as Mr Bumble, you would not be far off the mark,PW needs to take a long hard look at himself,re tactics and formation,as with a lot of his players,he struggles at this level, whoever the blame lies with i am not sure,is it the Chairman, who insists on a wage cap when Warne tries to sign a player,or is it Warne himself, who will not bring players in who would be on more money than the players that are at the club at the moment, its a dicey tactic if we have any ambition of staying in this league,we have been ***** footing about with trying to sign this other central midfielder, when we desperately need one,as the midfield we have at the moment, are as weak as water,if Jones and Robertson and Raggett, cant get in this team, then someone needs to have a good look at themselves,or is it a case of Warne picking his favourites, which is wrong, and the best eleven need to be playing asap.
What annoys me, despite the fact that Hull were better than us in every department is that all 3 goals were totally avoidable, especially the 3rd goal where both Mattock then Ajayi could've booted the ball into the stand and danger would've been cleared.
That said most goals come from an error by someone, our 1st goal came from them giving away a needless corner for instance.
