Why not? Ward, Turley and Evina are all a step up from Jones, Duffy and Brisley imo and if i could be bothered I'm 100% sure I could go back and find posts of yours talking about how Jones, Duffy and Brisley are the worst defenders to grace a football pitch and Nolan is an idiot for sticking by them.
(I actually think Dan Jones can be a good player sometimes but he was hopelessly out of form before his red card and most people were thrilled he was going to miss 3 games)
Duffy and Brisley would struggle winning a header if they were the only two competing for it.
Fitz 9. Caught everything, some very good saves , came off his line when he had to and pretty good distribution when not punting it for Dennis. He should be proud of himself to come through Nolan freezing him out and being dropped right in it with the shower in front of him. MOTM.
Turley 8. Worked very hard and did his very best for the team. You could ask no more of him.
Evina 4.5. He's not really a league standard player. He's got through on adrenalin for a few weeks but is weak in the air and continually leaves his man with too much space in the wing.
Ward 5. With a clean sheet your think the defence would be getting high marks , truth is Oldham were terrible in front of goal. Ward who I like was poor. Slow and didn't command.
Brisley 5.5. Better than Ward tonight but not by much.
Boudwijn 7.5 Kept going and our only threat all night. Felt sorry for him.
Thomas 2. Non league player. Head down, no brain, no awareness, not much pace with the ball at his feet, no link up play, frankly he's a waste of a space. Hawkridge is limited but he's twice the player Thomas is. Along with Hussin and Vaughan I would just write him off, there's not enough there to bother persevering with.
Hewitt 5. Fives generous but he at least he puts a shift in. He knows he's limited ,Kewell should know so why he thinks he can do the work of two,( he may as well have given Thomas a piggyback all night) God only knows.
Milsom 4.5 Had a bit of a shocker but midfielders always look bad if they have nothing up the pitch to pass to.
Allessandra 6. Started quite brightly but as it spiralled downwards he went down the plughole with the rest of them.
Dennis 3 . What an utter waste of everyone's time and money. He's played up front without a target man to play off every time he's got near the first team, it's bordering on cruelty to keep expecting him to be something he's not. He's scored forty goals in two seasons, the goals are in him but we'll never get them out of him continuing in the same vein.
Subs
Can't be bothered except to state the obvious that Duffy is a better actor than footballer.bothered
Kewell 1. I can see why people are calling for his head and if he went I wouldn't be bothered but unless somebody of the proven standard of a Simon Grayson type is lined up not sure there's any point.
His bench was bizarre, his lack of substitutions was irritating, the wasting of Dennis is hard to excuse and persisting with Thomas is inexplicable. He f luked a point, he didn't deserve it and it had nothing to do with him, he seemed like a bystander. I was gobsmacked when he didn't make a change at half time and to let it carry on, time waste from the hour mark and to be seemingly playing for the point at home against a moderate Oldham isn't really good enough. And breathe.
In all the years that i have been supporting Notts we have appointed some really dreadful managers, with the likes of Lary LLoyd, Colin Murphy, Billy Dearden, Chris Kiwomya,Hans Backe, Mark Cooper, Shaun Derry, Carl Heggs, Paul Ince, Howard Kendall, Ian McParland,Ricard Moniz, Jockey Scott, Craig Short, Russell Slade,Gudjon Thordason, Richie Barker and Jamie Fullerton.
Is there any wonder why i have a moan since i have supported Notts throughout all that rubbish, and we are still employing rubbish..
No, sadly you are, pretty much, spot on with that! I thought Nolan was shocking but this bloke is looking as tho' he is heading in the same direction. Destroying morale, tinkering with formations and playing people in odd positions - Kewell is dealing with a lot of inherited dross but he isn't helping himself much.
Anyway;
Fitzsimons - 3 quite amazing stops, harsh to fault him for anything really - 10
Turley - usual grit and solidity, stuck to his task all night - 7
Brisley - not convincing at the back, powder puff headers that mostly go up not forwards, better in midfield! - 6
Ward - an off day, not at his composed, commanding best - 5
Evina - getting worse by the game, absolutely awful display - 3
Hewitt - just too clumsy on the ball and easily by-passed without it - 4
Milsom - as per Ward, a bad night with misplaced passes but still the most composed on the ball - 5
Enzio - occasional flashes of skill but was well marked, nearly conjured up a goal at the end - 7
Alessandra - ok in harmless areas but offered nothing going forward - 5
Thomas - showed some battling qualities and got a decent cross in, not much to show for 90 mins - 4
Dennis - simply out of position, no confidence, no service, no chance of having any effect upon the game (not all his fault) - 3
Duffy - actually made a slight difference, vocal and did ok apart from the theatrical dive and "playing dead" bits - 6
Kewell - adopted a negative and defensive approach to a game that could have been won. Made Oldham look like the best team in the division, (apart from their finishing!).They should have scored 4, comfortably, even with Fitz's fantastic saves.
