Beware, Steve Thompson has many aliases.

As I read that my brain converted it into 'Steve Thompson's been to many alehouses'

This could be true also. Many fans who watched his teams certainly became more acquainted with alehouses, especially on Saturday nights after home games. It dulled the pain!

...and when we wanted a taxi home afterwards we just dialled 998. Still the best comment in a Notts post match interview ever It even made the Quotes of The Decade candidate list on BBC site. (under 2006)

It was funny I admit. To be honest I can't say I had anything against Thompson as a man, he seemed a bit of a character and would probably be good company in an alehouse. Last time I heard he was doing match summarising on BBC Radio Lincolnshire.

I didn't have much time for him as a football manager though. Perhaps the negative memory is worse because he somehow got the job twice and failed both times. Come to think of it, let's hope history doesn't repeat itself with any more recent Notts managers...
