Why does our announcer guy read out the attendance figures?

All it does is gee up the away fans, serves no purpose

Also to the PA guy, must you read the opposition team out pre match with such vigour? At away grounds our team is usually mumbled out, if read out at all, and I'm sure they deliberately miss-pronounce player names.
