Long and boring post post alert. The following comments are prompted by Roymit and Barrera's responses but aren’t aimed directly towards anyone, they may expand on my earlier post though. As stated I’ve never met Tom Watson. Opinions, which are what I gave, are like perceptions as they’re gleaned from how we interpret what we see/read and hear. Like arseholes everybody has as an opinion, and like every good boring online arsehole those opinions are mine.
To be honest TM’s always come across as something of a chod to me. And a very glib, off hand and catch phrase driven chod at that. I may be reading him all wrong and I’m open minded enough to reconsider. However as those are the impressions he’s always left on me they’re the ones which form my current opinions.
I am yet to stumble across a single
original/sensible view or opinion of his either as these seem to follow on the coattails of other initiatives. Hence my comments that he is a herd follower and campaigner. There is nothing wrong with either trait as numbers and campaigners are essential to party politics and many walks of life. But to my mind neither trait marks him out as a leader, another point I passed comment on and what the thread is about.
As for his weight loss I too commend him on his efforts. It’s very difficult to lose so much weight and his achievement says much for his determination. I was in no way deriding his initial weight gain either. Further to this I acknowledge that like many I could do with shifting a few extra pounds myself. When referring to the sugar content on the side of Cola bottles I was attempting to highlight his general lack of awareness.
He’s an MP in Sandwell which has one of the highest obesity rates in the UK. He’s openly admitted to having no previous idea of the sugar content of Coca Cola when the information is on the side of the bottle. Allied to the further comment he never realised how unhealthy cold pizza consumed with Cola could be as an option for breakfast also suggests he is indeed glib and off hand. Granted this is not a crime in itself, but his lack of awareness and thought regarding heathier options and his chosen words are an embarrassment to him if he’s to be considered as a serious politician.
Why does this become such a ‘big deal’? Because as the MP for West Bromwich he should have been at the forefront of promoting healthier life styles within his constituency from the outset rather than when they became relevant to him. That’s leadership on a local level. The fact he wasn’t inquisitive enough to look at a nutritional label he saw day in day out allied to his previously mentioned off handed nature, does not fill me with confidence regarding his attention to details elsewhere.
As for Corbyn don’t get me started on him either. And you can include McDonnell, Williamson, Abbot, Thornberry, Soubry, Hammond, Cable and a whole host of politicians across a spectrum of parties to the list. What a shower of sh it. I’d run for office myself but I’ve got far too many skeletons in the cupboard for any of that b@ll@cks. Thank your lucky stars people
