You never seem to hear this expression any more. If you asked this in the past, a lot would say Peter Lorimer.

Who do you remember, not just Albion players.
HI,blast from the past Jimmy case, wasn't he also deaf.
I saw a fair few Lorimer goals as a kid when dragged to Leeds matches with my dad and brother.
My dad always said he’d never seen a harder shot and I’d agree,I’ve never seen anyone consistently better.
I’d agree with Jimmy Case as well.
I’m surprised neither of you mentioned Bomber Brown who was right up there for me.
Of latter day players Paul Scholes would the others a run for their money.
In our present line up I’m struggling to think of anyone other than Brunt with power in their shot and that rarely hits the target.
Graham Roberts
Our own Ronnie Allen. Burst one of the old leather balls from the penalty spot. If my memory serves me correctly, I think that it was against Villa.
If you are talking hardest shot then it has to be from a dead ball. Some players use the balls momentum and timing in open play to hit the ball sweetly.
Tony Brown once took a free kick against Stoke in a 5-2 rare win for us. He was at least 25 yards out at the Smethwick end, Stoke built the wall, and i have never seen such venom in a shot. Banks never saw it, never moved, it was still rising when it hit the net and almost uprooted the goals. Bomber has since said it was probably the best goal he has cored, i saw the one at Hillsborough but that was a moving ball.
I remember a piece they did in a national paper about the hardest shot in football, and the usual suspects were there ,Charlton, Lorimer and Bomber. They said Charlton had a big backswing before striking a ball and so telegraphed his shot, not that you could do a lot about it, but Brown's backswing was only half as far back and difficult to read. They likened it the the punch of Joe Louis, the Brown Bomber, and could have been instrumental in Tony's nickname. Either way, everyone knew him as Bomber for a reason.
