Thread: Transfer rumour thread 19/20

A bit worrying that Neilson was saying in courier last week that he was willing to search far and wide for players.! 🥺.

Does that suggest any targets we may have had, have turned us down or is it just deflection from what is really happening.?

Robbie might not be in any hurry to get players in but I think we need another couple of additions, preferably before the start of the season.

    Hopefully we find out soon.

Robbie will have a list if targets, he will have had some suggested by our scouts. Most of these players may require other players to come into their clubs and ours may need some to leave before the deals can get pushed through, but most deals will be lined up like dominoes, just waiting for movement.
I also wouldn't worry about the preseason stuff
..fitness wise, the players will have been given work to do over the past week to get them back up to speed fitness wise.....the summer breaks are never as long now and the players should be responsible enough to not come back in a sh1t shape. I think we may see some movement this week, but we might have to wait a wee bit to have the full team in. As long as the majority of the squad are together for preseason and 1 or 2 join later, it won't be a big deal. Thankfully we ain't needing the annual complete over haul this season which should make a big difference.

Agree with weegie, Neilson is also quite cagey with regards targets and signings until they are over the line going by January

On last season's evidence, we need a bit more than another left back to improve anything. We desperately need a centre mid to dictate games, a striker to work with Clark (or maybe Sow if he can step up 100%), a centre half that wont be bullied around by ICT hammer throwers and another keeper in case that one reverts to mid season form. That, and getting the deadwood off the wage bill, would give us a shout of winning the title which is probably the only way out this situation.

100% this. If we want to dominate this league from the start we need to improve in so many positions.

Sticking with the mediocrity on the park from last season will lead to the same old same old and the play offs again.

Why are people getting so uptight, we have a good enough defence and centre mid is strong (Butcher Harkes combo saw us win the majority of games they started together), also have Bouhenna, can maybe add another to that

We need to strength upfront, wide and creatively,
I'm sure there will be movement in the next fortnight, not like loads of business has been did outwith those clubs where it was a necessity who had not much players left (a recently relegated side and Dunfermline come mind) , we already started the job in January

We don't need to dominate the league, winning it will do however it would be nice, either way we have a base to work from if we get the right attacking players in then we will have a great chance

No ones getting uptight. You cant blame fans for wanting to see the players we need added as soon as possible for the best effect. Also disagree. We DO NEED to dominate the league. Times up.

Not sure we can meet the 48 million euro release clause mate.

Agree with all of that weedgie.

It'll be interesting to see how many new faces are in place when we kick off v ICT, however I think most of us would like to see them in place in time for the start of the LC campaign v Hearts on July 12th, less than 3 weeks away.

I would expect that Robbie has been given a very solid budget for the players required and maybe we're making offers to players who might expect to get offers from bottom 6 Premiership. If that's the case it could explain why we've not seen much activity, while they wait and weigh up other offers before opting for us.

While its fair to say that players are, have been on holiday other clubs have signed players in the last couple of weeks so that reason alone shouldn't be preventing us from doing likewise.

Again I agree with this. There's a danger we will be just the same as last year and that is nowhere good enough.
Harkes is ok, not consistent enough last season which is understandable. I thought he went missing a wee bit at times v any hard hammer throwers because he wants to play football and i think that aspect of the Scottish game took him a wee bit by surprise. Butcher made a big difference when he came in but as we've seen he can get the odd impetuous red, or even pick up an injury.
So i think we need 2 midfielders added, both creative given that we also have Bouhenna as cover for Butcher.

So.... Smith RB, Sporle LB, 2 mids, at least one striker who will outscore Clark. That's 5, be happy with that.
