    Pedants rule OK!
Sorry to outpedant you. 'English and Welsh players'

Sorry to outpedant you Andy, but I do not believe there are any Welsh players in the squad, either by birth, or by representative county, notwithstanding the official name of the England & Wales Cricket Board: which organisation itself drops the W in its initials of ECB.

If anything it should be "English and Yorkies" - with 4 of the latter by birth - if one believes the Yorkshire seperatist movement and their hopes for a devolved yorkshire parliament.

One of my 'lads' (mentioned in a response to Swale above) is a recent 'escapee' (his word) from London and his mum believes Khan is utterly in denial about such things.
Actually it’s a fair point anyway. All that is being said is that the current England side are a great example of what multiculturalism can achieve and we should surely celebrate that.
I doubt that Sadiq Khan can be blamed as directly for the knife crime in London as can austerity and the cuts to the police service that have taken place since 2010, but returning to the England cricket team, Michael Vaughan has just made exactly the same point on R5 about the positive impact that cultural diversity has had in the dressing room and he knows a thing or two.

P.S. Completely understand the concept of ‘escapee’ from London...I feel much the same every time I return from there.

No argument about cricket's contribution with its, in my experience, completely inclusive (not just cultural) approach, interesting/amusing/heartening to see people in the crowd with (for instance) Indian shirts and England face paint yesterday. What a day, and another thing Khan could have said was that the dignity in defeat of the NZers was something to commend too

Yep, completely agree...great dignity in very unfortunate defeat. England deserved to win...as much for beating India, Australia and NZ in quick succession...but we didn’t half get the ‘rub of the green’ yesterday.
Think all the WC cricket crowds have provided a lesson for a certain type of football fan.
Little, if any, segregation...some very tense scenarios and seemingly no bother at all...if only!

The only bother I came across was me being called a ****ing know all after I explained the two late-innings sixes to Mrs F who God Bless her watched maybe 4 hours of the game

Presumably the second of those was the ‘overthrow’ boundary off Stokes’ bat. If you genuinely understood that you might be better than the umpires. Some, not New Zealanders but including Simon Taufel, are now arguing that should have been five, not six, because the ball was thrown in before the batsmen crossed.

    All irrelevant now...thank God!

Being a REAL pedant/general saddo, I got out the scorebooks from my now defunct old works team (actually my dads RIP that I played for), which were scored by a number of folk over the years inc me and my two sis's, but one fellah used to REALLY go to town with notes in the margins etc. I knew we had such incidents, which were easy to find, I just looked for 5s and 7s. His notes indicate that when an overthrow went to the boundary, the score given was four plus all runs completed plus the run attempted when the overthrow commenced. This shows that Erasmus and Dharmasena were consistent with 70s era Notts Derbys Border League umpiring which is good enough for me
