Thread: Stenhousemuir Predictions

You don't, which is fair enough, but I think Robbie is doing a great job so far.

i still think we're treating the cup as pre-season. we put out one of the strongest teams we could v hearts then went to a experiment team giving a few young guys chances v stenny. I think Neilson knows 7 of his starters and is still to decided with the rest. we won which is the main thing and allows us to go into the home games with less pressure but improvements are needed. giving cowdenbeath and east fife a doing could be what kickstarts the season proper.

i would be looking to be seeing more of an improvement for the two home games! if its similar performances in them then doesnt look good going into the league.

Hearts, a top six Premiership team, only beat the blue Brasil 2-0. I'd be pretty surprised if we did much better but here's hoping.

Very early days and still a few more signings to come in ( as is the case with almost all other clubs too ).

Shankland will need an attacking up front striker as a partner to get the best out of him - when we had Si Murray we never got anything like the best out of him as he was mainly played as a lone striker - Shankland, like Murray is more suited to having a partner up front ( which of course RN will be well aware of ).

Definite room for improvement and a couple of new signings still to come - we are looking better and stronger than last season - but I can appreciate people's expectations and frustration of last night's match.

Seen a report written about Adam King. Said he is a brilliant passer of a ball, the ability to see a killer pass, is a more attacking midfield player and has a good shot on him. Guy needs some gemmes but could be the one to supply Shankland.
Think we need to get some out to allow couple of extra quality to come in.

Skarne, i hope you are right about King MkII, but how many people do we need to feed Shankland? For centre mid, Butcher or Bouhenna(if he stays) have the defensive spot to share, but further forward, we have Stanton/Harkes(if he regains his form), Cammy Smith, Banks, Pawlett, McMullan, King and more.

Up front though, i think Appere has the makings of a good partner for Shankland. The 2 of them seemed to find each other quite a bit last night, and one move i remember Shankland winning the ball, passed onto Appere who then laid off the perfect ball for Shankland, who had unfortunately been left in a heap in midfield!

I've seen a lot of folk saying this but (and I have no idea, I only seen them a few times last season) did Ayr play him as part of a two very often?

First half of season Ayr looked like had 3 or 4 up because the rest of team played much further up park with width and Attacked. Regularly and at pace.

As you say **** all chance we are getting the A word from Neilson. He is the Cliff Thorburn of managers aka The Grinder for the under 50s.....

Means to an end I suppose but by God its painful to watch.

To be fair, we also regularly play four up front. Trying to say having McMullan, Pawlett, Clark, and now Shankland in a team is hardly a defensive set up...

When has it ever looked like we play with 4 up front though? At least last night we looked to have 2 up front until it was everyone back for the corners(until Cammy came on), but it was the same old rubbish at the back.

We were also opened up down the middle twice in the first half while playing safe, an event that would have seen us loosing a goal to a better team.
