And if we beat Inverness? Will Robbie get all the plaudits for the way he prepared us with this friendly?

Luckily I'm not but if I was the coach of Dundee United I would have played my best 11 today in preparation for next weeks league game. I'd want them playing together as a unit as often as possible. I'd arrange 90 minute bounce games for the fringe players to build their stamina.

So are you saying we should use the league Cup to experiment? By the way I agree with what you are saying but trying to balance experimentation with trying to get into the next round of a competition must be an absolute hindrance.
Beginning to hate this league Cup format now. It's getting in the way now imo.
I think he was using it, but to a lesser extent than today. Knowing the league cup games were coming up, why not arrange some friendlies prior to them, to “trial” things, then use the league cup to finalise?
As Stoke said, today should have been the intended starting 11 for next week, to see how ready they were.
Reading some of the posts on here recently, a lot of people have their head in the sand, and basically hoping it will all click together. Sigh!
Bang on. We are without doubt absolute garbage (in relation to our status as a full time club and one of the best supported clubs in the country). But as supporters you have that hope someone somewhere knows what they're doing and come opening day we'll be good again.
The reality is though that for some time now, and I'm talking years, we haven't had a decent manager and/or decent players.
I don't get to all the games, but I can't remember the last time we put in a decent performance, let alone a run of decent performances.
For an absolutely garbage side to watch we've surprisingly been on tv quite a lot and up till very recently I used to look forward to watching us. But see by the time it gets to 70mins into the game I'm wondering why I'm watching it. It's just dreadful.
Just having to vent here! Because the club I love (used to love?) is in an awful state.
I really hope I'm proven wrong, but where are the signs that things will be better this season?
Looking at our team.....
Keepers...decent now I'd say
Defenders.....centre halfs are rubbish, cart-horses who only know how to punt the ball forward....full-backs....right side looks ok, left looks a bombscare
Midfield.....not one of them can do anything creative, no-one has composure on the ball, just poor and why we never dominate games or are good to watch
Forwards.....maybe the best striker in the division, a few youngesters with potential and a crock.
Happy daysRoll on Saturday and ICT

I don’t mind mixing players around.
I really don’t like the complete phobia to switching the formation when it’s required though 😂
Still we need to back Robbie and let’s just hope we can get off to a good start this season
And our upbeat fan base and positivity just rolls on... Despite the good form in the championship towards the season end, including beating Inverness home and away in the play off
Why would we arrange lots of friendlies with the short close season we had? We managed three and it also turned out that out of the 5 game days in the group stages we played in the first four with our rest day today in matchday 5, Fri Tues Fri Tues then used it to fit in another friendly which made sense
Today looks like it was well worthwhile looking at the team we started and the 8 subs we made after 65 mins
See if you get relegated by Dundee, spend 4 years in the Championship, get knocked out of cup competitions by part time teams, play dire uninspiring football, go through managr after manager......etc etc......It's kind of hard to be positive in any way.
The only way I can imagine being positive is if you basically ignore the state we're in, ignore the past 4/5 years and have access to illegal stubstances
We've just recently been beaten by East Fife......a part time team......at home.....2 zero.....and you know the worst thing about it.....it wasn't even a surprise. National papers gave it a couple of lines the day after.
As I say, I'm really really hoping it does come good. But going on the evidence I've seen, it looks unlikely.
Ha ha what an eejit (potential funster imo)
Why would you lump everything in with the old regime, Utd are in the very early stages of a new journey under Ogren and co (7 months in fact) unless you want to spread negativity out dwell on old stuff, may aswell cast up all the positives from before then aswell while you're at it as we had it better than nearly every other fanbase in the country for the decade leading upto that
Utds self indicted meltdown starting Feb 2015 has been extensively covered and not with dwelling on and you saying Utd were relegated by dundee like a funster, anyone with half a brain knows on the night it boiled down if we didn't win we were down and if we did we were down within a week or so
The east fife defeat was covered and everyone had there say, it has no relevance to how Utd will do this season but I think I'll stick to Utds recent championship form as a better guide to how Utd may fare, I'm logical that way and really looking forward to next Saturday vs Inverness
See if Utd can add to the recent results against them in the last three months of the season to get off to a flyer
