Thread: OT The Godfather (and other films)

Scum, I like Italian gangster films and shows. If you liked Gomorrah look out for Suburra and Romanzo Criminale. There are films and TV series and if you go for one make sure it's got English subtitles as some of the imports don't! The 1999 TV movie Bonanno: A Godfather's Story isn't bad and you can pick up the dvd for around £2.

Thank you Paul. I love the mainstream stuff. Goodfellas, Casino, The Sopranos, Miller’s Crossing et al. I’ll look out for those. I’ve not seen them.

If that is the case it only further highlights Coppola’s genius.

It most definitely does. A couple of other movies I enjoyed: Lansky with Richard Dreyfuss, Mobsters with Christain Slater and Billy Bathgate with Dustin Hoffman, Bruce Willis and Nicole Kidman. Unlike the Puzo book, the Billy Bathgate book by E L Doctorow is excellent. Lansky is about the life of Meyer Lansky, a Jewish mobster associated with Lucky Luciano who is the subject of Mobsters and BB is about the fall of Dutch Schultz.

Hyman Roth in Part 2 was based on Lansky. He even phoned the actor to thank him.

I've got a VHS version called "The Godfather 1902-1959: The Complete Epic" where 1 and 2 are re-arranged into chronological order, don't think they've done a DVD or Blu-ray version.

They are all in Boardwalk Empire of course (except Billy Bathgate who was fictional).

    o/t Inspied by Scum: Chinatown.

    Really enjoyed Scum's Godfather thread.

Thought I would throw one of my favourite films into the mix, Polanski's Chinatown.

    Any fans out there?

    Nice bit of moderating.

Good idea to have film thread.
