Thought the referee and her assistant had a great game last night. There may be some controversy over the award of the penalty to Chelsea but it appeared to be one of those 50 / 50 ones to me.

The likes of Kevin Friend and Jon Moss would do well to look at this game and see how a referee should handle the game.

I can't believe VAR allowed that pen to stand, there was a clear angle shown after the game which showed conclusively there was no contact, maybe the VARmen didn't have that angle, if not they bloody well should have. Some pundit suggested they didn't want to over-ride the decision because they didn't want her to be shown to have got it wrong. If that is the case it's very, very wrong.

I thought she did very well, which didn't surprise me at all, men set the bar very low, no reason why women can't ref as well or better than most men.

Ref had a good enough view of it.....anyway, I think both players were fairly evenly commited, though Abraham needed to stretch to beat the keeper...and could only put the ball out of play - so seems as if he faked the foul ...with the collapse and tumble....was odd that the Ref didn't signal a Pen Immediately - that tells me she was unsure ( or got it in the ear) but as you say - Sinkov....VAR should have cleared it up - and she could have just asked to look at it herself before making a decision...Thats the game nowadays -screwed up - and I dont trust it.

I thought she was brilliant.

We now have women Refs for the Aussie AFL games. Australian "football" for those that don't know and its nothing like OUR football.

But there are some rules and customs in AFL that beat Football hands down.

No-one argues with the ref in AFL. Do so in a prolonged way or swear at the ref and its a 50 meter penalty to the other side.

No sending off but if you are reported during a game or if, on review of the game, (which always occurs) you are found at fault there is a tribunal you have to front with powers to suspend or fine.

A lot of foul, hack, play has been eliminated from AFL and its now more focused on skill.

That, and some Rugby rules (such as sin-bin) should be brought into play at Football.

That will sort it.
