‘A house thrown in’...think you may be confusing us with the clergy, the monarchy and the political class.
Easy mistake...are you wearing your woodwork teacher’s hat or your accountant’s hat when mentioning pensions.

The state primary that my kids went to in the naughties had a house for the headteacher and a second one available although no one took up the option on it. These were sold off maybe 10 years ago. It was a simple one form entry state primary, so nothing large.

I once taught in a school where the caretaker got a house with the job...hardly typical though.

Apart from the Royal School for the Deaf in Derby and a number of residential or public schools, a ‘house thrown in’ is not something I’ve ever heard of.
