Irony or what ???
Umpires have a tough job. Its inevitable that they will make mistakes, twas ever thus. Yes it looked out on first glance and the replays proved umpire ed med a boo bah but the Aussie players made a bigger c0ck up reviewing the Hazlewood Yorker that was at least 6 inch artside leg stump a few deliveries before. Don't forget Bairstow was wrongly given art when he was caught behind after being nowhere near hitting it. We reviewed it and overturned the decision, it happens.
My advice to the Aussies would be to use the reviews wisely and in the spirit they are intended rather than using them to upset the rhythm of the game or constantly appealing for shyte trying to goad umpires into making decisions that aren't there to make in the first place. They have done this all through this series and as far back in time as I can remember. Tha reaps what tha sows. Feck em.
They had at 3 opportunities to win that game yesterday did OZ with the last pair and blew the lot .
They could have run Stokes out earlier when we still needed 30 odd and threw it to the wrong end .
The catch Stokes offered up down at fine leg was difficult in all fairness but I've seen em taken before .
Lyon balls it too when we needed only 2 and the pressure did for him , the coolest man out there was Ben Stokes .
The reverse sweep for six is one of the greatest cricket shots I've ever seen given the state of the game and what was on the line .
It's incredible that Stokes can find that sort of shot at those times as he did in the WC final under that sort of pressure .
Some people are just born to produce that but they are an extremely rare breed and even then twice in 6 weeks is absolutely staggering .
When you can't take in what's happening before you because it's just much too much for an human being to absorb then you know it's off the scale .
Only Hollywood movies tend to end like that and that's just fantasy .
Yesterday was reality , incredible .
Still shecking mi eeard in disbelief mate. Watched the replays a few times today and it's still edge of your seat stuff and absorbing. Sat watching wi a big smile on mi kiteJust glad I witnessed it live cos when we were 9 darn I thought we were completely done for and could easily have turned the channel over in frustration if truth be told. However, I didn't and am bleeding chuffed a dint. These moments in sport are as rare as rockinghossshyte and it was a pleasure to witness. Oh to have been there though! Those at headingley yesterday will never forget that day as long as they live.
We've got to finish the job now, and not make the mistake of thinking the Ashes are now won!.
They will be like a wounded animal after the flack they took for losing that match, and remember they were lucky to hang on when the weather delayed the 2nd test.
