OT Formula 2 driver Anthione Hubert dies after horrific crash.

I watch many sports not just football.

Boxing, Cricket, Tennis and even fishing programmes to name but a few as they all provide me with great entertainment.
I also enjoy Formula racing so it was therefore extremely sad to read of the death of young French F2 driver Anthione Hubert in Belguim.

This is how it was reported:

Formula 2 driver Anthione Hubert has died after a serious crash at the Belgian Grand Prix, motorsport's governing body the FIA has said.

The Frenchman, who was 22, suffered a huge impact from the car of American Juan Manuel Correa at about 170mph at the Raidillon swerves.

An FIA statement said that Hubert was taken to the medical centre after the incident, and died at 18:35 local time.

Correa was taken to Liege hospital and is in a stable condition, the FIA said.

The race was stopped after the crash and cancelled within a few minutes when the potential seriousness of the accident became clear.

Hubert, who drove for the BWT Arden team, was lying eighth in the championship and had scored two wins this season, in Monaco and France. Juan Manuel Correa has fractured both legs and suffered further minor spinal injuries. He remains in Intensive care following surgery.

It is a sport by choice, however, it shows just how deadly it can be with a blink of an eye. I've seen the crash and it's horrific!

God bless young Anthione and his family.

    Tragic awful crash.
Reminds me when Yorkshires Justin Wilson died in 2015. His accident was unreal . A car a fair way in front had a shunt and part of the wing flew way in the air.
Justin came round the corner as it was coming down. The speed he was going as it hit his helmet gave him no chance.

Crash, thing is some folk think it’s all about just driving a high powered car around a scalextric track but it ain’t.

Highly competitive and very highly dangerous.

Ironically, Hubert had just crashed and was at rest until Correa also came off the track in the same area and took him clean out head on while Hubert’s car was side ways on, absolutely tragic 😢

Update for those that follow Formula racing:

Formula 2 driver Juan Manuel Correa - injured in the accident that killed French driver Anthoine Hubert - has been placed in an induced coma. Correa, 20, is "critical but stable" in a London hospital after complications following the crash, say his parents.

The Ecuador-born American suffered a spinal injury and broken legs in the crash at Spa, in Belgium, on 31 August.

Juan Carlos and Maria Correa said they believe his "tremendous fighting spirit" will help him recover."We are confident that our son will surprise us like he always does," they said in a statement.

Correa had a four-hour operation in Liege, but on arrival in London was diagnosed with acute respiratory distress syndrome.

"This is an injury considered common in high-impact accidents such as this one. Unfortunately, this injury resulted in Juan Manuel falling into acute respiratory failure," said the Correas.
Juan Manuel is currently in an intensive care unit that specialises in respiratory injuries. At this point of time he is an in induced state of unconsciousness and under ECMO support."

ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) is similar to equipment used during a heart-lung bypass operation,

Correa, who grew up in Miami and lives in Barcelona, has been racing this season with the Sauber junior team and is the development driver for Alfa Romeo Racing's F1 team.

"We wish to thank everyone within and outside the motorsports community for the wonderful and caring get well wishes that we have received, as well as messages for a speedy recovery," said his parents.
"We are confident that Juan Manuel will review them all himself once he is back in charge of his social media accounts."

They said the update had been issued in honour of the "straight-to-the-point and honesty" that characterises their son.

"At this time, we kindly request that our privacy and space be respected. As a family, we need to pull together and be 100% there for Juan Manuel," they added.

"Maria and I wish to take this opportunity to give our condolences to the Hubert family for their loss. Our hearts are broken, and we can only imagine the pain this loss has brought them."

What a difficult time for both families and all for the love of sport. Best wishes to Juan and hopefully he makes a full recovery.

All deaths in sport are tragic but to be honest F1 is a complete bore.

The lower classes F2 etc are a bit more interesting but still high on the yawn scale

Grist, it may seem boring to some but it is a testament to skilful driving, timed pit stops that require perfection or a race can be lost with a few dropped seconds.

As for driving at 180-220 mph and making split decisions .......yeh it’s boring.

I must confess to enjoying the races and the channel 5 coverage is spot on now but I can't watch the practice laps or the qualifying.
