Liked it, especially the Walls Ices tricycle service.
I also lived in Eastwood for approximately 4 years. Lived mainly on Coleridge Road and a brief spell on Haldane Road.

As for the ice cream cart, my early recollection of one would be about 65 whilst living on Shelley Road, Herringthorpe, always Walls nobody else.

The other recollection would be of the ‘Fletchers’ bakery van with the sliding doors fitted on the back. My Mum and me would cram in the back and I’d peer over the counter whilst taking in the lovely sweet smells of all the buns, cakes and bread on sale.

Brinsworth used to be virtually crime free when I lived there, then all the Eastwoods types moved in

Brilliant!... and the bloke used to shout "Walls Ice Cream" as he cycled along the street... and ring a bell, I seem to remember. I know that the photo looks like something from about 1890, but it was like that in Brinsworth in the early 60s
Remember it well in Monkwood when i was young, advert on side of his bike said "stop me and buy one" and at the time Durex did a simular advert that said "buy me and stop one"

Brinsworth used to be a one horse village but developed apace in the late 60s early 70s. In the early 60s there were really only Ellis and Duncan street atlas street alric and normanville. Not sure what there was whitehill end not brought up there. Manor junior school was there with mr Kimberley as caretaker who used to kick ass if you went on the school field out of school hours. Even that wasn't there till the late 60s.

Those were the days my friend! Where I lived in Monkwood you didn't need a watch or iPhone or anything to tell you the time. If the Fletchers van hadn't been it was before 10am, if it had it was after 10am (and I had my egg custard ). Same with the Tonelli's ice cream van at 4.15pm and the Staves greengrocery lorry at the same time on set days, rain, snow or shine.

Oh yes I remember the Walls ice cream man on his bike. You could have either a cone or a wafer (x2) to fit your block of ice cream in.

I also used to watch out for the Fletchers van coming down our road and my mum used to send me for a couple of "elephant's feet", or if he hadn't got any we would settle for a custard, but the elephant's feet were massive in those days, unlike the little piddly things you get nowadays, pfffffff ha-ha. Aye , them were the days .......

Staves greengrocers still going strong, even now when following a long line of slow moving traffic through Rawmarsh someone will quip it's either Clarks funeral cortege or Staves lorry.
