Jobby McCall has right got his knickers in a twist over this and simply won’t let it go. Sportsound last night they were talking about Heckingbotom getting the sack and why in hindsight instead of paying £350,000 on a striker from Forest Green, he hadn’t instead tried to get Shankland for zilch. McCall replied, and I quote, “Because Hibs wouldn’t be able to get near what United are paying him”.

I actually think he may be right ..

If reports are correct that he received a signing on of £250k and is on £4k a week + bonuses hats a very good deal and one most clubs outside the old firm would be able to match id say .

The simple fact is that I don't know what you earn, what my neighbour earns or the lassie that works behind the till at Tesco's earns. So how on earth can anyone else know what Lawrence Shankland earns?

As far as I’m concerned you can’t lose something you’ve never had and Banks hasn’t and we now know, never will, make an impact for Dundee United. Therefore this is a great chance to get rid in January and basically get in decent development transfer money with zero impact on the promotion push. Indeed the funds garnered can be put to use to further strengthen the first team to make sure we get over the line AND set ourselves up for next season. So basically, there may still be a silver lining to all this.

Your assuming someone will actually want him and pay 200K+ i have my doubts - He really isnt anything special and by then he wont have kicked a ball in months

Then he’ll no be playing any football then. Due to his age and time served at United then we are due development money as a minimum from whoever wants him. If no-one wants to pay that then he’s going nowhere. However that’ll no be happening. He’s been tapped up, pure and simple.
