Before you set up your own site you have to try and understand a number of things. Why are the majority of Mad sites so moribund? Why have posters left MM? But here the analysis has to be honest and not simply the encapsulation of an individual's untested and prejudiced hypothesis. It's possible that football - by its nature essentially a passive activity for most supporters - is not intrinsically interesting. Forums I frequent on other activities are largely populated by people doing the activity and they tend to post to share experiences, provide insights, comment on rules, scenarios, approaches to various products and services etc, etc.
If you set up a site based on false premises or in pursuit of a constituency that doesn't exist in reality you will fail. Exeter set up Banter as a vanity project. It was essentially promoted as the antithesis of something that already existed, the Anti-Mad to Millers Mad. Countless posts there referred to how nasty MM was and how MB was so much better, more adult. It was a nonsense from the beginning and the same phenomena of wind-ups, cliques and bullying soon emerged. If you want a site that reflects your own views and prejudices, then great, but pretty soon you'll be talking to yourself. On MB there was at one time a thriving OT board. Several members objected and in a short space of time the three or four main OT contributors disappeared off and now you get perhaps one or two OT posts (posts not threads) a season.
