Why on earth football puts up with abuse of refs is a total mystery.
There are loads of aspects of the game that can be argued about - opinions can understandable differ wildly (VAR, offside, ball to hand , hand to ball etc.) but surely cutting out this sort of crap is a no brainer. It must be the most straightforward problem to deal with.
The authorities decide what is reasonable as regards players approaching refs. For example:
Only the team captains can approach the ref and respectfully ask for an explanation of a decision, suggest he consults the assistant referee etc.
Anyone else is told "step away or get booked"
If they don't step away they get the yellow and are told to back off now or double up to a red.
Not an original idea by any means. People are always suggesting something on these lines. It would surely cut out harassment of refs at a stroke
