Thread: Transfer rumour thread 19/20

I'd sign another left back for cover as I definitely don't want a repeat of last time is Robson got injured. I think it's probably the only position we are light in.

Hopefully the gaps that we all know are there can be filled.

LB, Sporle obviously aint the answer, but may be improving in the background
RB, Wardrop i thought was due back in training in January, but i see posts thinking he is ready for consideration by then?
Butcher, need some credible back up as King aint that, Stanton and Harkes ok for the odd game or 2.
LW/M, Appere seems to have this sown up with Stanton and McMullan filling when required, but would like a proper left sided player in here.

I do expect some early movement.

I agree that a Left Winger would be a good addition to the squad in Jan. When we had Dixon and Conway working the left flank together it could be a devastating weapon and I think Robson could develop a similar type of partnership with the right player in front of him. But signing a 'good' winger is a tricky business. Wingers are notorious for injuries, form lapses, and can be both brilliant and gash in the same game.

If I was Robbie, I would only move for a winger in Jan if he was really confident in the player's ability to contribute to 'the team' both on and off the park. If there is not an obvious decision for him, he should hold fire until the Summer.

I wonder if we could offload Sow in Jan? I think that would free up at least one 'decent player' salary. Albeit, I'd be surprised if we were not over-budget on player salaries, so maybe, again, just sit tight until summer even if by some miracle we manage to move Sow on!

I think we would let Sow go for nought. But we'll probably end up having to pay something towards 'freeing' him from his contract.

It's a shame, I was genuinely excited when we signed him. He could've had a great time at United had he just managed to play, perform and score. But he failed on all of these counts.

We definitely need a back up left back, left winger/midfielder,I would like to see a similar player to butcher added as well and replacements/upgrades on Stanton and cammy Smith, also maybe king and Spörle will be replaced and what about strengthening for the premier next season 🤗,let’s face it we need to replace some players to make a decent fist of it when we’re promoted 😁

Assuming we do go up I'm expecting a couple of exciting additions tbh. But I would expect them in the summer maybe not the January window. The club have shown their ambition with signing Shankland.

We know our weaknesses so let’s address that and look again in the summer if required 😁,plus the less we need next season should make it easier no matter what division we’re in 😁,remember Robbies job is safe 😞🙃

Not so long ago, post 741 in this thread in fact, i agree about Stanton leaving if an upgrade could be found. Since then, i have seen him play due to others being injured and doing quite well. He has spent most of his United career having to be a defensive mid which is not his position, but lately has been on both wings which has seen him get into positions where he can provide the pass he is capable of, and chip in with a goal or 2.

Looks like i will never see the best of Cammy Smith in a United shirt, but hope he doesnt come back to haunt us!

He’s only had 100 games to finally look decent and he’s guilty of hiding when the going’s tough,I’d rather give a replacement a chance or even a youngster and we definitely need an upgrade in his position as harkes is nailed on if playing well.

Contract extensions inbound for Clark, Watson and Stanton as they enter the last 6 months of their contracts.
