    Conor Chaplin

There's nobody more critical than the recruitment policy than me , especially when we find ourselves back at this level .

However my criticism is always based on the fact the analytical and age restriction strategy is far too rigid and makes life harder than it should do .

That said there's something in this analytical system and it would be unfair to say there isn't .

Who saw the potential of Conor Chaplin ?

Absolutely nobody , nothing at Pompey or Coventry that said he could score goals regularly in the championship given he wasn't prolific in league two or one .

The analytics said he could and you just can't recruit a player with his number of goals thus far in the championship for a million quid , you just can't .

Fair play to the recruitment team who saw this even when he was in League Two at Pompey and eventually got their man via Coventry City .

It’s the same with most young lads you have to find a system and a position that suits them and then maybe you can get the best out of them. Brown is another that seems more happy with where he’s playing and he’s improving every game.

This is the thing that winds me up more than anything Doggy .

We have two strikers scoring at a rate that's unprecedented in the modern championship for the fees we paid for them , around 2 million combined and not only that playing for a team who have spent the majority of the season at the foot of this league ...... and yet ......??

With some common and and ambition who knows where this could take us .

You couldn't find two strikers with their goals thus far at this level for two million quid , not a fecking chance .

If these two were at Brentford they'd be nearly 10 million a piece , all day long .

With some kin brains and a sense of the bigger picture plus the footballing narrative of risk and reward we might be on to something .

Watched the game this afternoon on a dodgy stream and Chaplin is a player , the kids a real handful , that left foot is something else but his movement is also right up there also .

The thing is we know where this is going and that's the thing that kills me with this policy .

It's not the recruitment team, it's the turnover of players. Simply far too many ins and outs this summer. We all know things dunt happen overneet and being realistic tha cant expect em to. Had we kept the outgoings to a minimum, ie 2 or 3 leaving this summer then we'd have had a far more settled squad and gone into the season in better shape.

The board must start to understand how football at this level works. The 17/18 season was enough evidence to make anyone see that a mass turnover of players only leads to struggle in this division yet here we are 2 years later in exactly the same predicament, struggling at the bottom end after 12 new signings with no championship experience were brought in during the summer.

Av seen enough to know that we certainly aren't the worst side in this division. I think some of the football we've played has been very good. Our lack of experience, individual mistakes and naivety has cost us a fair few points but the players are desperate to learn and improve, anybody can see that. There's certainly teams in the relegation mix who have nowhere near the heart and desire that we've got.

This season (on the pitch) reminds me of our year in the premiership in many ways. By the time we get to grips with things our bad start will probably cost us relegation.

Now tha can point finger at players but I'd say that the board and their lack of respect for this division is the key reason we're in the shyte.

Risk and reward Pass , you can actually diminish the risk if you are smart by recruiting the experience that compliments the analytic approach .

It depends also why you bought the club and what your motivation is .

I sincerely believe the ownership and the fan base are on separate pages and there lies the problem .

“There's certainly teams in the relegation mix who have nowhere near the heart and desire that we've got. “
Wimbledon cup winners.... Sunderland cup win.... heart and desire sometimes trumps skill and experience.

I’d carry on with what we have now.... Bring a billy big BLOX in and it will upset this improving squad.

No one more surprised than me with this win. But Luton, Millwall, Stoke, Boro and Wigan look to in a lot worse hole than us......poor runs, seemingly no improvement and dropping towards us.
1 point from survival now. Half way through. I still think they can do this.

Chaplin looks a proper handful and a cute/clever player. Looks like Struber has pulled a master stroke by moving Woodrow back and enabling someone else to share the burden of goal scoring. Your sudden form uptake has come when Wigan, Stoke, Luton have plateaued. Charlton can't stop falling

    Youngsters are inconsistent.

We still see spells this season when a particular individual flowers forra while and then dees back.

Al keep my powder dry until 31 st January.
