Topics like this stimulates debate and it lets people see what is covered up. If the fire had spread to the trailer it could have resulted in another Herald of Free Enterprise Ferry disaster.
I am currently on a long term suspension from the Dark Blues Forum for the temerity of having a ‘spat’ with the poster Prince Buster. I refused to back down and accept that his views are gospel!
Their loss is Dundee Mad’s gain.
Prince Buster is a right cad isn't he?

The fire had started during the crossing and people sitting in their cars at Port Askaig including myself, were surprised to see the Islay fire engine arrive at the pier with its blue lights flashing.
After the Calmac ferry the MV Finlaggan docked at the pier I noticed several vehicles had departed the ferry but then it was about another 20 minutes before the rest of the vehicles including the fire engine departed the ferry and drove up the hill at Port Askaig.
Prior to boarding the MV Finlaggan I asked one of the Calmac shore based staff what had happened and he replied that the cab of one of the HGV’s on the car deck had gone on fire but fortunately the fire had not spread to the trailer.
The MV Finlaggan departed from Port Askaig 30 minutes late and the captain of the ferry made a public announcement
apologising for the late departure of the ferry which had been due to a vehicle fire on the car deck.
Needless to say news of this fire on the MV Finlaggan has been suppressed by Scottish Government owned Transport Scotland and Calmac as they are not allowed to publicise bad news.
Here Islay the Orkney islands guy was having a right pop at the fish 're SNP record with the ferries round the Orkney.

I assume you are speaking about the Orkney & Shetland Isles MP Alastair Carmichael who comes from Islay.
Alastair Carmichael knows sod all about Northlink ferries. A couple of years ago he was shouting about wanting the RET fares structure on the Northlink ferry routes replacing than the current fares structure.
The introduction of RET would mean that the current 30% fares reduction (40% for people aged 60 and over) for island residents served by Northlink sailings would be immediately ended as there is no reduction for island residents under the rules of the RET scheme.
Everyone sailing on Calmac routes pay the same fare no matter where they live. People living in USA pay the same fares as a person resident on one of the Scottish islands served by Calmac ferries.
Yet another MP promoted to his level of incompetence

    That's shocking Islay.

    Why not!
It is expensive living on the Scottish islands especially when you only have the Cop-op for your weekly shop and they only stock trifle sponges in the run up to Christmas.
That being said lat Sunday Tesco in the Kingsway Retail Park in Dundee had run out of trifle sponges.

Surely these things are taken into consideration when looking for a place to live? Living in an idyllic situation such as the highlands, Islay or any other island / remote place is always going to be costly for transportation and inconvenient for shopping isn't it?
