Police Presence in Rotherham Tuesday 07 January 2020

We were in Rotherham yesterday shopping, took notice 3 police officers outside post office on bridgegate with paperwork, also 2 officers on horse back came down.
We were told that they were clearing the streets of homeless people, & a pub had been changed into a homeless centre, the pub named was the Cross Keys.

Safe Haven used to offer some support for people that needed it at Talbot Lane Church. I understand with the Church closing the Cross Keys was going to become a venue to continue providing the services. Greggs apparently donated a lot of food.

Clearing the streets of them sounds very dystopic. A very sad reflection of our times that there is so much homelessness. I would be interested to know what it has become, I hadn't imagined it would have any accommodation but don't know.

Yes that’s true Eric, take any clothes/food there for the homeless

I’m sure cross keys was bought by a Rotherham MP but couldn’t get permission for what she wanted to do with it

John2, this is a genuine question. No wind up.

Have you ever though about coming back to Rotherham to make a difference?

You are an intelligent, articulate and proactive, well-travelled, fella.

The town is crying out for talent at the moment.

So sad that the the best we can produce have to leave the town to utilise their gifts.

    Any chance?

I’ll correct that before certain one/s are looking.

The streets are being cleared of homeless people so that the new MP for Rother Valley won't be offended when he drops in for one of his flying visits

......erm, Rotherham has it's own MP and she's never seemed particularly bothered.

Can't be any worse than Denis MacShane when it comes to "flying visits", he used to spend most of his time in Europe.
