so you actually need to go into a bank to withdraw cash? you cant do anything online or pay with any type of card?

I do. Have to fill in a withdrawal slip and everything. Japan is miles behind most countries with stuff like that. We booked a weekend away in a wee cottage in the mountains--had to confirm the booking by FAX!!!! It's slowly becoming cashless but not even close to UK. I pay everything in cash--petrol, supermarket etc. Use the missus' credit card for online. I'd be skint with a debit card!! Especially in a boozer!!
