Im a real film buff, must have over 2000 DVD’s in my collection but haven’t got a single film that Kirk Douglas is in. In fact I can only ever remember watching 1 film that’s he’s in, not Spartacus, not into those biblical movies, it was something to do with a lighthouse, forget the name.

Had a good innings didn’t he? RIP KD.

The Light at the Edge of the World

    Early 1970s

Lust for Life is his best one in my opinion, about Vincent Van Gogh’s life

Hey Loyal, just off the top of my head as another self confessed film buff lol...
Try watching Posse (1975), and The Fury (1978), and Tough guys (1985), for some really varied and enjoyable Kirk Douglas performances.

Cheers Acido, I’ll give them a watch. I looked at Kirk’s IMDb and turns out I have got one of his movies in my collection. Gunfight at the O.K. Coral.

Ohh yes Loyal, that Gunfight at the ok is another big legend in westerns.
And Kirk was obviously good mates with Burt Lancaster at the time as they starred toghether in it.

And they both did it again with Tough Guys in the mid 80s. Its a right giggle seeing these two elder gentlemen trying to re-live their former train robbing glory days lol.
And even the great Eli Wallach (Tuco, from The Good the bad and the ugly) is in this film.

Just took a look at his Filmography and he was nominated 3 times for an Oscar but never won one although many of the films he was in did as did his co-stars and creative teams. Most of his 'good' stuff was many moons ago (Spartacus was 1960) and I remember seeing, but would have to watch again to really remember his performances in Champion and Lust for Life. As mentioned, with a 1986 release, I remember Tough Guys coming out and his partnership with Burt Lancaster in that one. 34 years ago so he was a young 69 when he made it

Kirk Douglas was also a man of honour and integrity. At a time when many within the film industry were selling friends and colleagues down the river during McCarthyism, Douglas risked his career by insisting that Dalton Trumbo was acknowledged as a writer on the film Spartacus.

Other than Michael , Kirk Douglas had another son called Eric

Eric died in 2004 from an accidental drug overdose.

Unlike his father and brother Eric was a stand up comedian.

There’s a story about him performing at a comedy club in London where he really died on his feet.

In desperation he shouted out “don’t you know who I am, I’m Kirk Douglas’s son !!”

A man in the audience stood up and shouted back “no I’m Kirk Douglas’s son”

    You can guess the rest
